Buddhism is a religion that originated in Nepal. It is vastly different from most other modern religions. The main difference is that their is no high and mighty god ruling the Earth.

According to Buddhism, reincarnation is real. In order to be reborn as a higher form of being, one must perform good deeds. If you had lived an extremely good life, you can be reborn as a human, or in heaven.

Karma is probably a word that you are familiar with. For each good deed that you do, you gain positive karma, which will be redeemed later as happiness. For each bad deed you do, you will gain negative karma which will be redeemed as unhappiness.

Buddhism states that the ultimate goal of one’s life should be to attain nirvana. Nirvana means to never be born again. To obtain nirvana, one must follow the dhamma. Which is the teachings of lord Buddha.

According to Buddhism, life is suffering. Birth, sickness, old age, death all leads to suffering. To end this suffering is to end life, hence never be reborn.

Aside from all this, my favorite thing about Buddhism is that you are not forced to blindly follow its been teachings. You are encouraged to challenge its views. You are not sent to hell or punished for disbelieving. You are judged purely on your actions.
