It’s time for a retreat with God. A retreat in the everyday. What I mean by that is that I am suggesting that as Christians we take time to get to know God better.
I can see the doors and windows closing already. Do not let that happen. This may not be the time for everyone who reads this to do what I am suggesting, but it may be. If not when you first read this, then in the future.
I am suggesting a thrity day period of special reflection and prayer with God. I am suggesting openness to where the Spirit will lead you if you do this.
This is something we can all do at home, living our normal daily lives.
Well, doesn’t retreat mean making a special place for God? I can see some people asking
Yes. It does. But God is always there for us. It is we, as humans who separate ourselves from Him. It is we as Christians who step away.
So first, step back toward God. Take some extra time with your Bible study. Whenever you turn on the radio or the ipod to listen to Christian music, really listen. There are lessons there, if the music is truly inspired. When you walk through the doors of your church, prepare yourself for the service. Pray that you will be open to the lesson God has for you there. When you turn on your television to watch one of those televangelists, if that is a part of your life, listen to what God has to say to you. Do the same with a radio sermon.
If you find yourself to have a dearth of Christian resources, I suggest that you check our a few podcasts, or if you home church tapes your pastor’s sermons ask if you can listen to the tapes of past sermons.
This retreat can be conducted at home, without giving up your daily responsibilities, but it will take discipline. If you take the challenge, you will find changes in your life from day one (at least I have), if you do not, then you have no way to know what would have happened. Take the challenge!
