A Novel Idea

Everyone is looking for the newest, best thing. We all want to be original, individualistic and stand out from the crowd. Sometimes we come up with hair-brained ideas that seem to work out great. But what are the real, long term results?

Back in about 1991, some local entrepreneurs got an idea for a new venture.  Basically, they would open a new restaurant built on an old barge and call it The Cajun Kitchen on the River.  Apparently this novel idea was a successful one since the restaurant has remained open for business for some 18 years.

On Monday, February 23, 2009, the owners, who had also decided to make the top level of the restaurant their home, were awakened by a loud popping noise.  Soon thereafter, their home began to list and they realized they were sinking.  I imagine that sometime around this point they probably wished they had put their home and business in a traditional brick-and-mortar building, with a solid foundation.  Jesus warned us of this very thing concerning our faith (Matthew 7:24-27).

There are many that teach “new and novel” things today.  But we know that there is only one Rock to build upon.  The Lord Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation.  And we know there is but one blueprint from which to draw up our faith: the Bible.  If we look to God’s Word to guide us in any aspect of our lives, we will find the Truth to build upon.

1 Thessalonians 5:21

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Thank You, Lord, for giving us the Truth we need to follow after Your Holy Way.
