A Prayer for Mothers

Lord Jesus,

Thank you for the gift of life,

Which you bestowed upon all of us

Through our parents, especially through our mother.

For them we earnestly raise this humble prayer.

Grant them the strength O Lord,

In body and in spirit

To carry out with serenity all the tasks in their sublime calling

Protect them and keep them healthy

Both physically and emotionally;

For on them depends, the fullness of our families.

Give them the wisdom to face their day-to-day lives,

And keep them close to you;

Especially in moments when they encounter

The most trying times in their lives.

And at times when they feel so overburdened,

When things for them seem so hard to bear

Send  to them your own Loving Mother,

To give them comfort and consolation.

And when their earthly journey comes to its end,

Let them share the heavenly joy of the Blessed Mother,

of Sarah – the mother of Isaac, of Elizabeth – the mother of John,

And of the countless holy mothers whose lives

They offered to you by loving and raising

The families God has entrusted to them.

This we ask, in your most Holy Name..

Amen.
