As the holiday season comes and goes for all of us, it is a natural time of reflection about the true meaning of our beliefs. Where are they founded? Who is this man that many people worship as the “Sun of G-D”? The truth is that very few people even have a clue about the basis of their own religion. The clean shaven, blue eyed sun of a virgin is most likely not accurate. As much of a picture perfect holiday as that makes, is probably pretty far from the truth.
The truth is, Jesus was a Jewish man. And he lived his life as a Jewish man. I know that is a huge statement, but it shouldn’t be a shock. Now, if we can all accept that he was a Jewish man, and that is how he chose to live his life, and how he chose to worship god, why would anyone interpret his message to mean that you should be something other than Jewish? Most people, in his life time and after, chose to misinterpret his message to their personal views, or political message. The most likely reality is that he was trying to tell people to be a good Jew. The bible only supports this truth. There are no Christian Values that are not already Jewish laws or Mitzvahs.
It would be great to believe, as millions do, that all of the ideas in the New Testament are unique creations of Jesus. The only problem with this theory is the original Hebrew bible, which you will find in your own bible, disguised as the “Old Testament” with a few extra books thrown in to connect the story. All of the values in the “New Testament “are recycled and put into the new story line. As angry as this may make you to read, your anger should be directed towards the church, for skewing the message for 2000+ years.
You may believe that I am anti-Christian, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. I was raised as a “Christian “and by divine intervention, was able to find my way into the light of Judaism. I was really upset when I came to the conclusion that the message everyone would like to believe, isn’t true. But when I really started to think about it, and educate myself from books that were not edited by the church, I felt more than betrayed by the church. I felt as though the people telling me what to believe also did not know the truth, or worse, they refused to see the truth. Finally I came to accept that it is really a state of chosen denial of logic that the church is operating under. Not only do they operate like this, they are teaching us all to operate like that.
My biggest wish for any Christian is that they may learn to read Hebrew and will read the “bible “in its original form. Not the Bible that you have been given, which, by the way, has been translated at least 4 times from the original, before it ever got to English. Originally the Bible was written in Hebrew or Sanskrit, from here is translated into Greek. From Greek to Latin and Latin to either German or Old English, and then updated through the years. How can you expect to get the same pure message? It is like the Telephone game, played over 2000 years, with personal interpretation added here and there.
Many Christians believe that the Jewish people or Hebrews are “the Chosen People of God “. My question is this: if you believe that the Jews are the Chosen People, why would you choose to be something else? I’m just curious. Because when I asked myself that question, there was no turning back. I couldn’t understand in my own head, what the hell I was doing in church. I was proclaiming that they were the chosen people, and yet, for me, that wasn’t good enough. I could not deny the logic of my own conclusion, and had to face the fact that my views were changing.
I can only hope that reading this will make you angry enough to do some research of you own. I wish that you may find your own truths and not be afraid of what you do find. The most valuable lessons that you may ever learn are the most painful, I hope that you will have the courage discover yourself. Happy hunting …
