“Our need for truth and reason should be greater than out need for answers and happiness.”
-Me
My faith is neither here nor there when it comes to following organized religion. But when I sat down to think about the logical reasoning behind each one, I came to a profound realization. Agnosticism is the only logical answer when it comes to faith in any god(s). Of course each person’s life’s experiences and background will influence what they believe, e.g., if they witness a “miracle” of someone escaping death and if they were raised with their parents faith instilled in them.
I was raised Catholic but always felt guilty for not being able to convince myself that there was a God in space when I saw very bad things happen on earth, especially to good people. I now embrace the fact that my reasoning will not let me accept things or beliefs based solely on faith. After much reading and discussion with both the faithful and the unfaithful. I finally realized that the only logical answer was that we didn’t know the answer. Anyone that claims otherwise is selling something (a belief, a book, something.) Atheists have “faith” that there is no god, the same basic principle that Christians have when they have faith in that there is a God. Maybe there is no God, or we have the wrong impression about Him. Maybe he does exist, but is not as powerful and/or benevolent as we think. But if he does exist in these weaker, less-divine ways, Why worship Him? I have written several articles on the inconsistencies of religion, especially Christianity, on my site. If you feel the same way and agree with me, please visit my site and let me know at the bottom of my articles where there is a comment section. My site is http://www.triond.com/users/thedragon319
Some excellent resources that helped me in my quest for truth were www.thereasonproject.com , Why I am Not A Christian by Bertrand Russell, God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens. I am going to read The God Delusion as soon as I can get a copy!
