One of my favorite episodes of life, was when science realized that
quarks exist only when they are being looked at. To me, this was
like the universe winking back at man. The new physics has turned
science upside down, and it’s very refreshing. It has produced a new
kind of scientist that perhaps, is not so eager to rush headlong
into arrogance.
Albert Einstein wrote: "The fairest thing we can experience is the
mysterious." He also wrote; "He who knows it not, can no longer wonder,
no longer feel amazement, is as good as dead, a snuffed out candle."
The loss of wonder is costly. For one thing, it promotes pride, because we
think we can explain everything. Actually, the more that science discovers,
the more wonderful creation becomes. All honest scholars admit their
ignorance and wonder at how much there is to learn.
Today a loss of wonder has helped to make us shallow and hallow. Wonder
and worship of God go together, and leads to depth, helping us to put daily
to put life into perspective, and perspective helps us to determine true values.
This may explain why so many in todays society wants entertainment instead
of enrichment and a "good time" rather than a good life.
"I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Thy
works; and that my soul knoweth right well." Psalm 139:14
