Blasphemy is Not Victimless

Some atheists think they are smart in their comments. Really, they are not in most cases.

It happened on an Internet forum I am very active on. Someone posted a YouTube video of a British comedy that gave a stupid rendition of the testing of Abraham in regard to his son Isaac. I watched about thirty seconds of the garbage. I killed the page after I saw they were mocking Yahweh God. I posted that the video was blasphemous. The agnostic or atheist replied blasphemy is a victimless crime (implying that does not exist cannot be blasphemed).

In forum discussions, sometimes atheists and agnostics refer to the God true Christians believe in as “the man in the sky.” This video inserted into the sky an image of a nearly aged man that acted like a dolt. However, to me what made it worse was that it was a mocking base account of Abraham being tested by God.

If you are unfamiliar with the true account, please read Genesis 22:1-19. Before I get to the main crux of that passage, think of how Abraham felt when told by God to sacrifice Isaac. Imagine the inner anguish within his soul. Imagine the horror Isaac felt as he was prepared for sacrifice and saw the knife inches from his chest. Thinking alone of the anguish both went through, and with respect to the image of God within us, and especially with the way God develops faith in His disciples (Romans 5:3-5, James 1:2-6), even at that level I considered the video blasphemous. It was a mockery of the precious way God develops faith in His redeemed children. A mature Christian can look back to the most trying times in their lives and find the eternal sweetness in the temporal anguish.

But, of course, the passage to a greater degree foreshadowed the sacrifice of the Son of God for our salvation. I see nothing funny in that. In fact, thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. Think of the anguish of the Son as He actually became sin for us. Think of the anguish on the Father’s part as He pour out His wrath upon the Son due to our sins.

That brings me to my reply to the atheist / or agnostic that said blasphemy is victimless. My reply to him was that it is not victimless, for those who commit and enjoy blasphemy are the victims themselves!

I know. I used to be that way. I once hated God and every religion, but for some odd reason I hated Christianity the most. Whenever I heard “How Great Thou Art,” I would shake my fist at heaven and say “How great Thou aren’t.”

Blasphemy hardened my heart. The hardening of my heart made me more deaf to God and more prone to sin. I was the victim of my blasphemy. Isaiah 65:7 states, “Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.”

Not only that, those who blaspheme instill more unbelief in those that are spiritually lost. It is the blind leading the blind along the march to eternal spiritual damnation.

God has done everything for us so we can avoid damnation. We are incapable of doing it ourselves because even the most moral person is impure before God (Romans 7:18). Veiled in our flesh we were to have had Adam not sinned, the Son of God obeyed the Father being led by the Holy Spirit as we are supposed to (Philippians 2:5-11). Not only were all His actions correct, but the needed state of purity was there. By the time He finally ascended, He had completed all of the necessary works in regard to our salvation (Romans 10:4, and please listen to my message, Bound to Bless). By faith we must forsake our own ways (even the ones we deem good) and fully surrender to Him, letting Him as King rule our life every moment.

So, let us bless, and not blaspheme, God, and the image of God within men(1) for whom He provided redemption.

I agree that those who commit and enjoy blasphemy are the victims themselves!

So very true. I am astounded at the intensity of hatred towards anything Christian. You can almost hear the serpent hiss when some atheists come across anything Christian. But this should not surprise us really, we were warned in the Scriptures that there is spiritual warfare going on constantly. And we know that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.

Blasphemy is a mortal sin. We have to survived as mankind who cares for our family and society.
