Busy Lives…
Are we really living the lives God intended us to live? One has to wonder…Long ago the Lord spoke of how the Word should be a vital part of our lives. The people studied the word and taught it to their children. The people of God had the Word and His Spirit in the midst of every day. He instructed them to teach it to their children even as they walked down the road. (Translation for today…on the way to the soccer practices, school or whatever) The content of the Scriptures should be a living, breathing part of us. It isn’t any wonder that the enemy is leading many Christians around in circles because our knowledge of the Word is, on the average, truly lacking.
Jesus countered the devil so many years ago and His responses were developed using His knowledge of the Word with sentences that started with “It is written…” One has to wonder if we can combat our enemy effectively with the Word if we only know portions of it? If we aren’t taking the time to really study the Bible as the Lord intended then how can we effectively know how to fight?
Fast forward a few thousand years and consider the daily activities of our lives. We are busy zipping here and there in a world of 24/7 cable television, ipods, video games, cell phones and all kinds of electronic wonders that keep our minutes occupied. I have to wonder if God is truly happy with the way our lives are going. From the moment the alarm clock rings…and let me stop right there…long ago people didn’t need an alarm clock to start their days yet they consistently woke up early in the morning to perform their daily tasks. If we would stop and consider…where would we be without the alarm clock? And if we’re unable to rise early in the a.m. to start our day without it, could it be that we’re filling our days with too much activity? Are we laying down to rest too late to wake up without the assistance of a loud, disturbing noise to jolt us out of our slumber? Are we tired because we are trying to stuff 35 hours of activity in a 24-hour day? And more importantly, is God instructing us to do that?
I encourage you to stop and consider your life and determine what exactly it is that is keeping you so busy? And after you’ve considered that ask yourself is this life lining up with the plan God has for my life? I have to wonder if we scaled down the excess and stuck to the plan God has laid out for our lives…would we still be so busy and would submitting to His will create a remarkable change in our lives?
