Casting Your Cares on Christ

Jesus saves. That’s not it. That’s not all. Jesus also cares. It’s hard enough to believe that He’ll save us. Now go a little further and believe that He cares for us, too.

Casting all your care on Him, for He cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)

If we cast all of our cares on him, it is shared with us in all sincerity that Christ cares for us.  In our times of trouble, He cares for us.  When all hope seems lost, He still cares for us.  Even when we are in doubt, when our faith has been rocked and shocked, He still cares for us.

The comforting words of one who knew Jesus personally make a difference.  In fact, Peter knew Jesus, was called by Jesus, and even had Jesus share with him how the gates of hell would prevail against the church that the Lord would build upon this rock.[1] Yet, isn’t it comforting to know that Peter had all of that going for him, but he still had doubts? Isn’t good to know that God will still care for us while we get a little beside ourselves and think that we know a little something only to find out that what we know is something pretty little?

Yes, Peter knew Jesus personally, but so should we.  As I come to know Him better and better, drawing closer and closer to Him, I begin to develop a deeper relationship with Him.  In doing so, I begin to share some things about me and what’s going on with me.  I begin to trust Jesus with some intimate things about me.  I begin to have an intimate relationship with Jesus that is based upon trust.  Eventually, I find myself truly relinquishing my cares and concerns into the power of His hands because I am confident that Jesus Christ cares for me.
