In mythology the earth was always in existence. Mythology says that the earth and the heavens created the gods, and the gods did not create the earth. On one hand the earth has existed for an eternity, and on the other hand there was a creator who made a wonderful world full of life. Although the formation of the earth is a vital part of mythological and Biblical history, they both offer varying accounts for the earth’s origins.(Hamilton)

In mythology the earth was never created or evolved: it was always in existence. There were two gods who gave birth to the twelve Titan gods. There names were Cronus and Rhea. Their children are Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Hera, Ares, Athena, Apollo, Aphrodite, Hermes, Artemis, and Hephaestus who are the Titan gods. They control most of the things that happen in mythology, such as the elements and the thoughts and actions of the mortals that inhabit the earth.(J.M. Hunt)

In mythology there are hardly any instances where are killed because of sins or wrong doing, but in the Bible it states many times where people have angered God and provoked his wrath. God destroyed the city of Sodom and Gomorrah because every one in that city was corrupt or homosexual, which angered God.(James)

My thoughts on how the earth was formed are very clear. I believe that God created the earth in seven days. I believe that the seven days were literal days not imaginary days that could be thousands of years or more, which is contrary to the evolution theory. I believe in Christianity, which means that the evolution theory is a lie to me. I have read in mythology that the earth was never created and that is was just always there. I think that that is absurd and totally irrational.

In the Bible it says that God created the earth in seven days. On the first day of creation God created day and night with His spirit .When God was done He said that what He had created was good and moved on to create another miracle. On the second day God began to create the atmosphere which surrounds the earth in a protective barrier. On the third day God separated the land from the sea and made all of the plants and trees that would hold the ground together. On the fourth day God created the heavens. He made the stars, the planets, the sun and moon, and divided the day from the night. On the fifth day God created sea animals and birds. He created everything from whales, to salmon, to mocking birds, to butterflies. On the sixth day God made land animals and humans. He created us in his own image, which means we look similar to Him. He created every single thing that crawls, runs, and jumps on the earth. He blessed them and commanded them to be fruitful, and God gave us authority over all He had created. On the seventh day God decided what he did was very good and devoted that whole day to rest. So God rested all day that day and that is why Christians have a Sabbath on the seventh day of every week, Sunday. God named the first human Adam. Adam was a man who wanted someone to keep him company, so he asked God to make him a companion. God made a woman named Eve to be Adams wife. Adam and Eve were ejected from the Garden of Eden when they ate a fruit from a specific tree that God had told them not to eat from. They were forced to go out on their own and suffer pain and sadness, but worst of all death for their sin.(James)

After Adam and Eve had populated the earth, everyone started to become very evil and corrupt. There was only one man that still loved God. His name was Noah. God told Noah that He was going to destroy the earth by flood. God instructed Noah to build an ark that was approximately 300 cubits long by 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high.

After Noah had built the ark, animals from around the world came to the ark. It is said that there were two of every kind of animal in the ark but that was wrong, there were actually six of every unclean animal and two of every clean animal. When the animals all got onboard the ark, it began to rain. Noah and his family went quickly to board the ark. It rained for forty days and forty nights. Genesis says the water remained on the earth 150 days. The ark came to rest on mount Ararat. The animals and Noah’s family all set out to repopulate the earth.(Antelope Publishing)

The world became bad again around two thousand years ago. God decided that He loved us so much that He would send His only Son to die for our sins and save the world. That is why people go to church and worship today, because God made and saved the world from our horrible sin.

In mythology the earth was always in existence, there was nothing living on it and there were no people. The only thing that existed was Chaos. After a long time two children were born. Nigh and Erebus were their names. They were children of Chaos. They were the only things that existed in the universe “all was black, empty, silent, endless”(Hamilton pg.77). After the two gods were born a long time passed, until all of a sudden their was a playwright, described by Aristophanes. He said “… Black-winged Night into the bosom of Erebus dark and deep laid a wind-born egg, and as the seasons rolled forth sprang Love, the longed-for, shining, with wings of gold”(Hamilton pg. 78). Hesiod was the first Greek to explain how things began. He said “Earth, the beautiful, rose up, broad-bosomed, she that is the steadfast base of all things. And fair earth first bore the starry heaven, equal to herself, to cover her on all sides and to be a home forever for the blessed gods” (Hamilton pg.78).

There are some gods that control things in nature such as fire, wind, water, and earth. Some of them are hated for what they do and others are loved for things such as making rain fall during a drought. (Hamilton)

The ruler of the gods was Zeus. He was the son of Chronos and Rhea (Arthur Cotterell pg. 89). Zeus’s father ate all of his brothers and sisters before him, and was going to eat him, but his mother tricked his father Chronos into eating a stone. (Arthur Cotterell pg. 89). After Zeus was older he had vowed to get his brothers and sister out of his fathers stomach. His lover Metis gave him a potion that when taken would make the drinker trow up. Zeus gave the potion to his father and Chronos threw up all of Zeus’s brothers and sister, and then died.

The god of the sea is Poseidon. He was also the son of Chronos and Rhea. He was also known as Neptune . Poseidon had a huge trident as a weapon. He was blamed for earth quakes and the god of the underworld thought that the roof of the underworld would cave in if Poseidon didn‘t stop causing earth quakes.(Cotterel)

Hades also known as Pluto, was the god of the underworld. He was the god of the dead, not to be confused with the god of death for he did not cause death, he merely ruled the dead. Hade’s wife was Persephone who is the goddess of death and the queen of the underworld.(Cotterel)

Another powerful god that controlled the some of the things that happened on earth was Helios who was god of the sun. The Romans called him sol. It was said that he would ride a boat around the earth at night and arrive on shore just before dawn. In mythological times, the people thought that the earth was just one big island that was surrounded by water. Helios determined when the sun would appear and when it would be hot or cold during the day.(Cotterel)

One other god that made the world different was Ares. He was the god of war. His parents were Zeus and Hera. Ares had no wife but he did have three children through Aphrodite. There names were Phobos who were twins and Deimos.(Cotterel)

These are only a few of the many gods that would shape the earth in mythological time. In mythology, gods were not real and the people knew that. There are many planets named from gods in mythology, such as Mars, Pluto, and Jupiter. When these gods were named, they were not named after planets, because the mythologists thought that everything in the sky was ether the sun or a star.(Cotterel)

Mythological view and Biblical view of how the earth came into existence are very different and have very few similarities. The earth in the Bible was created by a God that loves the people on the earth and even gave His only Son as their Savior. In mythology there are no principle gods that would determine what is right and what is wrong, but there is one god that is better than all the rest. His name is Zeus. He did not create the earth but he did play a big role in how mythology was formed. In the Bible there is a heaven and a hell. Heaven is a great place made for those who accept God‘s Son, Jesus Christ, as their Lord and Savior. Hell on the other hand is a horrible place where people who reject God go.(D.L. Ashliman)

If you go to hell you will be punished for eternity, and tortured with fire and constant sickness with no cure. In mythology there is no heaven or hell but there is a place call Hades. It is ruled by a god named Hades and a goddess Persephone, who is his wife. It does not matter what you have done, whether you were good or bad, when you die you go to Hades for eternity.(Cotterel)

First of all you cannot say with for certain that the greek gods do not exist, and secondly people did believe in the gods they sacrificed and worshipped to them.
