News was coming out of the restaurant’s radio where I worked and it was clear we were under attack. All flights were canceled and many aircraft were diverted to Newfoundland (and my sincere thanks to Newfoundland).
My employer made sure the rear of the eatery was secure. Near the end of my brief workday I headed upstairs for supplies. The side entrance rang and an employee opened the door. In came a young man dressed in military gear, apparently invited by the employer for a free meal before going off to defend our Nation. The severity of the day’s events were now etched heavily in my mind.
The U.S.A. was awakened that day to the fact we were not really secure. In the weeks to follow, it was evident our economy was shaky too. In the months and years that followed, security was strengthened. The unmerited attack was evil, but shamefully needed to put us on the alert.
It was by God’s mercy we did not end up like Laish (Judges 18:7-13). The fall of a nation is serious and often is the result of its people not following the laws of God. Yet, even worse is when one who knows Christ permits themselves to wander from the hand of God, opening themselves to spiritual disaster. We need to be mindful to (1 Peter 5:8) “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
Though written to true Christians, non-disciples also need to take that passage to heart. In a way it is worse for them since they are unable to sense the defensive guidance of the Holy Spirit. They have no saving strength to rescue them when entrapped by sin, especially addictive sin. They have no recourse when pestered or even possessed by satan[1]. He drags some into a pit, pushing them to suicide. Satan will devour whomever he can.
The only safeguard is to be in, and stay in, Christ. This means a forsaking of our sins and a full surrender to Him Who loved us so much as to take the punishment for our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). This becomes a personal awakening.
Staying in Christ means to by faith in Christ lovingly obey both the written Word (John 14:23) and the direction of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14). Some everyday basics are worship, prayer and the study of God’s Word.
Our prayer is that the United States has another awakening, one where it yields to the Holy Spirit and commits to God’s Cure (John 3:14-19) for our sinful flesh. May God in mercy grant at least one more sovereign revival before the end of this age and the rise of the The Beast (a.k.a. the Antichrist).

[1] I avoid capitalizing that name. Triond gives me the opportunity to do so and earn money too.
The Lord willing, this article will be part of my Bible GemLight series as Jasper016.

You are right – say in Christ. The big lie as you and I know is that people believe we belong to a “Christian country” when name tags do not denote true belief. You raise a lot of valid points.
Good article, very bold. I think that Canada has become even more secular than the United States.
I have my faith in Him throughout my life and He’s always there for me, when I knock for Him. Jesus saves and always will be. Truly, what transpired that day – September 11 – was the awakening of our sins for salvation; in USA and the whole world.
