DO YOU TRULY BELIEVE AND TRUST IN GOD?
When we say we are a Christian we are saying we truly believe and trust in God for all things; that we are following the Lord, Jesus, the Christ, God’s Son, our redeemer, our savior, and have accepted His gift of life, we believe in Him and we believe Him, believe what He taught…But do we? Are we really consecrated to the Lord.
I know there are things in my life that need to be changed, things I do every day that really are not what God would have me do. My heart is in the right place but my brain and my will power just hasn’t caught up with my heart. I keep telling God and myself I am going to change, do better, stop making unhealthy choices, do the things He would have me do, think before I react; all those things that trip up my walk with Jesus. I sometimes talk the talk a whole lot better than I actually walk the walk. Praise God He is not finished with me yet. He gave me another day to get it right. He continues to bless me and take care of me in spite of my lacking. Praise God He loves me and loves me enough to keep prodding me and encouraging me in the right direction.
The question I have to ask myself is, do I truly believe and trust in God, trust Him enough to follow and obey and do the things He would have me do and stop the things I am doing that I know deep in my heart are not right? I say yes but then I hedge. Why do I consistently fall into the trap of allowing myself to be a slave to sin? Why is it that what I would do, I do not and that which I wouldn’t, I continue to do? If I truly believe God and wholeheartedly trust God then I must let go and let God, allow God complete and absolute control in my life. I am saved by God’s grace, free by His grace and in being so I am therefore no longer slave to sin and no longer bound by the evils that surround me. My Lord has set me free and I can now completely trust my God to guide me, protect me and provide for me because God loves me. He loved me and knew me and had set a plan for me before I was even born.
God is merciful and righteous and compassionate. God is very good and there is no one and nothing that compares to God, not even close. He showers us every day with His grace and His immeasurable blessings, His mercies when what we really deserve is His judgment. He is Lord God of all and all glory and honor, our most humble and deepest respect, our deepest love should be given to Him. He is God, the creator and lover and protector of all that is good and we can have a personal, one on one relationship with God. He is our friend, the best and dearest friend we will ever know; could possibly ever know.
Imagine that, God wants to be my friend. He wants to walk with me, talk with me, share with me and spend time every day with me, not just when it is convenient for Him but any and every moment of every single day. All He asks in return is that we trust in Him, believe in, make Him number one in our life, no matter what, rather than walking around with our chin on the ground whining and complaining and worrying about everything that is going on in our life and around us.
Too often we walk around going through life doing our own thing, trying to solve all our problems, the world’s problems our way without giving one thought to God until we are desperate, knocked down to our knees with our hands tied behind our back and then we might just think about God and we cry out to Him in our need. It is then that we cry out, “help me, tell me, show me the way, what it is I should do” and God was right there all along had we only sought Him out in the first place and trusted and believed in Him. He is the way, the truth and the life, the light that will light our darkness but only if we will trust Him, believe in Him and follow Him.
We are stuck in a rut today and we worry about what may happen tomorrow but God tells us not to. God says we are to believe and trust in Him for all things. God said, He promised; it is even written out for us so we won’t forget; it says “Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you” Matthew 7:7 according to His perfect will for each of us. This does not mean that bad things won’t happen. They do. They will. The world isn’t going to change. God didn’t send His Son to change or condemn the world. He sent His Son so we may be saved. The world around us will continue in its darkness but God gives us hope and a bright and glorious future ahead of us if we will just simply trust and believe and not let worry wear us down.
God said, “Don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own worries.” Matthew 6:34 Tomorrow will be the today we worried about yesterday instead of walking with the Lord our God and letting Him lead the way. Do I, do you truly believe and trust in God or are we going to continue to stumble along and getting hurt as we try to go it our own way and find some way out of our darkness. Jesus is the light of the world. He is the way, the truth and the life. He is all we will ever need and all He asks is that we trust Him and believe in Him; follow where and how He leads us but even God can’t lead if we refuse to follow. “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2
When we truly trust and believe in God, follow Him, we will also be able to say, “I waited patiently for the Lord and He inclined unto me and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of the horrible pit, out of the miry clay and set my feet upon the rock and established my goings. And He has put a new song in my mouth; even praise unto our God. Many shall see it and fear and shall trust in the Lord. Blessed is the man that makes the Lord his trust…” Psalm 40: 1-4
