During Easter holiday we remember the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. But
His death did not come as a surprise. It was told of before He came to earth in the old-
testament and fulfilled in the new-testament. Here are some of the prophecies which were
fulfilled on the cross;
1] Jesus was crucified with two criminals;
-We all know or have heard that there were two other men also crucified one on the right side and the other on the left side of Jesus and those two men were criminals. Isaiah 53; 12 prophesied about it and it was fulfilled in the book of Matthew 27; 38.
2] Jesus prayed for His enemies;
-As He was on the cross Jesus said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they are
doing”, Luke 23; 34 and this was a fulfilment of the prophecy from the book of Isaiah 53; 12.
3] Jesus had no bones broken;
-The Jewish soldiers broke the legs of the two other men who were crucified with Jesus but
when they came to Jesus they did not break any of His bones, John 19; 31-37, fulfilling the
scripture in Psalms 34; 20.
4] Jesus had His side pierced;
-As the soldiers pierced the side of Jesus [John 19; 34] they fulfilled what was written in the
book of Zechariah 12; 10.
5] Jesus cried from the cross;
- Jesus cried saying, “My God, My God why have You forsaken Me?”[Mark 15; 34]
fulfilling the scripture from the book of Amos Psalms 22; 1.
6] And finally; Jesus’ garments were divided;
-After they had crucified Jesus they divided His garments among them; Matthew 27; 35 and
that was a fulfilment of the scripture in Psalms 22; 18.
