A simple discussion of my perception about Exorcism.

An Exorcism is when to get rid of, and or free an evil spirit. This is performed by a priest when the devil possesses someone’s body and mind and has them do bad stuff to either hurt themselves or hurt others. During an Exorcism, a priest may use prayers and religious materials, such as set formulas, gestures, symbols, icons, and amulets. The priest also uses Holy Water, and crosses when performing one because the Holy Water especially is comparable to acid to the demon. Sometimes when the Holy Water is thrown onto the possessed person’s skin it burns through the skin because the Holy Water is considered as acid to the devil. Some people may also try to kill the priest because they are helping spread the word of God to everybody, so the devil will have the person try to kill them.

If the person is not exorcised, he or she may commit suicide because the devil has made them very sick in their mind. If the person does commit suicide we do not know if the person is still evil because we do not know what the person’s last thoughts were.

In general, possessed persons are not regarded as evil, or entirely responsible for their actions. Therefore, exorcism is generally thought more as a cure than as a punishment.
