Finding Real Purpose

I tried to write this article as short as possible because I know that most of us here are fan of reading short articles… just kidding…. anyway it still appears to be a long one but hope it can help each and everyone who reads it…

No one would like to live until their eighties or nineties or until the last year of their lives and… discover that they have not lived according to the REAL purpose of their lives. To avoid that heart breaking moment… here are some guidelines that I suggest and that everyone can consider:

1.      No one knows the purpose of an invention except its inventor. (And unless the inventor reveals it.)

If I had seen an abacus for the very first time and had not heard about it yet, I would not know what it is really for. Actually, when I first heard that an abacus is for calculations / arithmetic functions, my first reaction was “Really!? Are you sure? This thing can count?” yeah… whether we agree or not, that’s the real purpose of an abacus…says who? The inventor of course…he just revealed the purpose for his invention to many people that’s why everybody now knows that an abacus is for calculations.

No one knows the purpose of our lives except our Creator, GOD. And the greater news is that God is more than willing to reveal to you His purpose for your life. He uses the bible, people, your circumstances, this article, to reveal to you His purpose for your life.

2.      You cannot just invent or guess the purpose of an invention. Why? Because you might destroy it!

Going back to my example, if I have an abacus and do not know what it is for, I will probably use it as a toy for little kids or a tambourine. And that could be the cause for the beads to fall out from the abacus… in short I may break it. (And how sad it is for a thing to be destroyed without being used as what it is really intended for.)

We can’t use a refrigerator as an aircon or use a ballpen in writing on whiteboard. And can you imagine if you use a watercolor brush in painting your whole house? If you use a thing NOT according to what it is really for, you might destroy it.

We cannot just invent or guess the purpose of our lives. Why? Because it will lead us to destruction! Before I had known  God’s REAL purpose for my life, I had a set of FAKE purposes…I invented them. And they are like these….to finish my studies, become rich, help my family, have my own house and car. Yeah these things are good but these are just FAKE purposes because I just made them. Please don’t get me wrong, aspiring for those good things are not bad, but to make them as the purpose for this life is totally WRONG! It is only my Creator who can tell me His real purpose for creating me. And I can’t just invent them because that could lead me to destruction. As it is written where there is no revelation people perish.

God revealed to me through His word (the Bible) that His first purpose for my life is to have a personal relationship with Him…(and I believe that is His firt purpose for you too) and I can begin living His purposes for me from that point.

3.      Read the manual that the inventor gave to know the real purpose of what he invented; and how it works. Or ask someone who had read the manual and came to know the inventor’s purpose for the invention.

Even if I know that an abacus is for calculation, Come on! I will still NOT be able to use it for its purpose because I need something or someone to tell me how it works.

Read the Holy Bible (the manual of our lives) that God had given to reveal His real purpose for our lives. If you don’t want to read it because you get sleepy, you may start by asking your christian friends about God’s Word. You can find the purpose of God for your life in the bible, and not just that, you can find there God’s instruction on how you should live your life.

4.      The invention must be used for its real purpose. According to what the inventor intended it for.

An invention is just USELESS no matter how beautiful and lasting existence it can be if it was not used for the purpose that its inventor created it for.

We must know God’s purpose for our lives and live according to it. Even if we lived the longest and achieved the farthest one can achieve on earth… if we had not known God and His purposes for us…everything is vain, everything is useless, everything is emptiness.

I could only help you and lead you as far as ……here. I can only introduce Jesus to you… and the rest is your decision, your freewill.

Personally, nobody, as in nobody had ever died for me… as churchy as it may sound. Jesus is the one who died for me, for me to live in eternal life… and the good news is that He also died for you, for you to live in eternal life too. And I only found the purpose of my life in Him and I pray that you will also find your purpose in Him too.

I really did try to make this article short… in case you don’t have the luxury of time to read the whole thing… just read those which are in bold and italicized text. To God be the glory.
