“Some friends don’t help but a true friend is closer than your own family.”   Proverbs 18:24

JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy, recently put into film, show the beautiful friendship between two hobbits, called Frodo and Sam. Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee took on the dangerous mission of returning the Ring of Power to the forbidding dreaded land of Mordor. Hobbits are little people (only two to four feet tall) who lived simply and saw no need for adventure. Thus, it came as a surprise that the wizard Gandal choose Frodo to bring the ring to Mordor. Gandalf also commissioned Sam, Frodo’s gardener and friend, to be Frodo’s companion in the journey.

Their assignment proved too great a burden to bear many times. Enroute to Mordor, Frodo and Sam encountered all kinds of obstacles and terrifying situations. These trials not only tested Halflings’ resolve but their friendship as well.  Until the end, Sam kept his promise not to lose or abandon his master and friend. He remained faithful even if it almost cost him his life. He bravely defended Frodo, patiently cared for him, spoke the truth in love when needed and stayed with him despite disagreements and conflicts. Frodo could always count on Sam no matter what.

The Bible says true friends are like that. They stick closer than a brother. They look out for each other, They rebuke and correct if necessary. They forgive willingly. A true friend is someone you can trust to go with you through the delightful meadows and the dry deserts, the dark valleys, and the steep mountains the rough seas, and the quiet streams of life. A true friend is a gift from God and to be someone’s true friend is a blessing twice received.

I absolutely agree with you on both, the true friendship that Frodo and Sam shared; as well as what is written in the Bible.
True friends are hard to come by, and when they do it the decent respect between the two of you that carries the friendship further and further into the future.
    Awesome comparsion.
