Good Deeds Has Recompense
Text: Psalm 112:1 to 3 – Praise the Lord! Happy are those that fear the Lord. Yes happy are those who delight in doing what He commands. Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed. They themselves will be wealthy and their good deeds will never be forgotten (New Living Translation).
Many blessing are available for us in the new covenant God had granted us in Christ. They include honour, prosperity, security, freedom from fear, etc (Psalm 112:6 – 8). Peter was a man God honoured and blessed. As a fisherman, who would have known him? However, when he left all and followed Jesus, Jesus made him and we now read about him. Remember also house God miraculously save him from the hands of Herod.
In our text is one of the conditions upon which we can find happiness. What are the conditions upon which we will find happiness (Psalm 112:1)? Do you really fear God? God says that the soul that sins shall die (Ezekiel 18:20). Do we obey Him or do things of our own? No wonder we lack blessings and are in want. Do you desire your children to be successful? Do you want your generation to be godly? Then you must do what Deuteronomy 28:1 says. Obedient to God and His word is the key to success (Joshua 1:8).
Verse 3 of our text says good deeds will never be forgotten. Our good deed is one of the things that will follow us when we die. It is also one thing that people will use to remember us. People will always remember us by what we have done so says writer of Hymn Sacred Songs & Solo 798. God remembered the good deeds of Ebed – Melech. God will not forget your own good deed.
What are your good deeds? You may not have received a commiserate blessings and appreciation out of it. Never mind, take courage in the words of Jesus that whatever we loss here for the sake of the gospel we will regain here on earth and at last in eternity (Matthew 19:29). God will remember you perpetually and reward you with successful children.
