He Never Forgets the Needy
Text: Psalm 9:18-For the needy will not always be forgotten nor the hope of the afflicted perish forever (NASB)
God’s nature is to show concern for his creature no matter the social and physical status. This was in Jesus’ manifesto at Nazareth (Luke 4:18 and 19). Jesus demonstrated this by touching the leper, which was against the law, and healing all manner of people who came to Him whether rich or poor. The Psalmist knows this fact about God and affirms it here that God will never forget the needy.
Family Bible Notes have a counsel for the needy based on this verse of Psalm 9. It says, “The poor and the needy may for a time seem to be forgotten, and may be called to exercise long patience; but let them trust in the Lord, and in the end they will see that they have always been remembered, and their highest hopes will be more than realized.”
This fact is worth noting. God may seem to delay but He never denies. Remember the story of Elizabeth and Zachariah. God heard their prayers all these while but waited for an opportune time to act so that His name will be glorified.
At times when we are in need, we become desperate and begin to worry but with God, there is time for everything. At the right time, He will fulfil it. Do you feel you have been despised and forgotten? Read Isaiah 49:15. Surely, He will not forget you. It may delay in coming but that does not mean that He has forgotten. What are your expectations? Note what God says here. That expectation will be fulfilled for He is God not man (Numbers 23:19). It may not come at the time you expected but it will come. Stand on that hope and do not be moved it will surely come.
FFT: Is there anyone in need and you know God remembered?
