HE WILL RESCUE AND PROTECT YOU
Text: Psalm 91: 14 – The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name (New Living Translation).
This Psalm is among the psalms people read always because of the promises in it. God rewards faithfulness (Hebrews 11: 6). When Jesus gave the summary of the law (Mark 12: 29 – 31), it centred on the love for God and our neighbours. Your neighbour may not reward you for your love for him (Matthew 5: 44 compare Romans 12: 20), but it is very different with God.
In today’s passage, God is saying that He will rescue and protect those who love Him. This is a yardstick to measure a true lover. He is right there in time of need. As one who loves you, He will protect you from harm. How many of us will deny ourselves sleep to guard a loved friend? I do not mean looking after a sick friend, rather watching that person as he sleeps. Even when you watch over a sick one, there will come a time when you will become weak and sleep. However, our God does not sleep nor slumber (Psalm 121: 3).
Are you in danger and afraid being harmed by the enemies who fighting to see you out of the way? As you begin to love God with your spirit, soul and body, He will save you from all dangers. When you do that, He will rescue you and protect you from intended ones coming your way. Even though you are not in danger now, it shouldn’t stop you from loving Him who first loved you and gave His Son Jesus Christ for your sake.
