History of Quiapo Churc

The Quiapo church was built by the Franciscan Missionaries, it is also made in Nipa and Bambo. San Pedro Bautista was the founder of the Quiapo Church which image is located at the side niches of the church.

Quiapo Church

It is one of the most popular churches in the Philippines, it is also known as Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, a much adored statue of Jesus Christ that makes many people believe of the miraculous attributes.

The Quiapo church was built by the Franciscan Missionaries, it is also made in Nipa and Bambo. San Pedro Bautista was the founder of the Quiapo Church which image is located at the side niches of the church.

Appointed parish priest Bishop Hernando Antiporda was brutally murdered together with his assistant parish priest Rev. Fr. Raymundo Costales, in 1975.  It was believed that robbery is the motive.

In 1984 three persons namely; Msgr. Jose Abriol, Architect Jose Ma. Zaragoza, and Engr. Eduardo Santiago worked hard to the parish church and national shrine in order to meet the needs of the churchgoers. The church structured has doubled in holding capacity. September 28, 1987, Cardinal Sin blessed the church and after that; Quiapo Church was declared the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene.

The annual procession honoring the Black Nazarene is held of the month January. The Black Nazarene is transfer from Luneta to Quiapo. This was participated by Millions of Devotees while, Quaipo Church holds Novena of Masses before the event. There are many people especially those who are sick come to see the Black Nazarene hoping that they will have a chance to pray in front of its miraculous images, that would heal their sickness.
