The pentecostal denomination was pioneered over a century ago into the mainstream. The movement had sprouted in the in the Methodist and Baptist denominations. Pioneers like William Seymour, C.H. Mason, and Annie Semple Mac Phereson spearheaded the Baptism of The Holy Spirit into the prodestant church which is known today as the Pentecostal denomination. The doctrine of this Charismatic movement is based on the Book of Acts 2:9. What we know today about this Spirit filled movement is the Holiness church gets it roots from this chapter and verse of the Holy Bible.
If you ever have the pleasure of attending a Pentecostal church service, you are in for a treat. You will see the Gifts of The Holy Spirit at work in the form of a spoken prophecy, tongue speaking, and my favorite of them all, the Holy dance. There are other gifts that i did not choose to mention in this article, but they are prime for future discussions. There are those in Christendom who are skeptical as to the nature of the Gifts being valid for application in this time period. Some even take the position that these Gifts were for the use of the Apostles of Jesus only. One lady who will remain anonymous said; “ I was taken into a room and they prayed I would receive it, and when nothing happened, they instructed me on how to do it”. I do not think this theological argument can be settled in a lifetime, let alone a opinion column. One fact is certain and that is that the answers to these questions are found in scripture and no matter how far you have come along in your Christan walk you will always find some one who disagrees with you. The need for Hermeneutics in the modern church is evident by the doctrinal issues that divide the Church today.
As members of the Body of Christ we must realize that, church is like ice cream and everyone has a favorite flavor. The religion ( I hate to use that word) is Christ, and the practice is Pentecostal. My survey of The Book of Acts leads me to the conclusion that the Holy Spirit was given to Jews who received it, because Christ knew that they would need the Holy Spirit to preach the Gospel to the world. Christ knew they would meet opposition in the form of stoning, be-headings, beatings and even being put on trial. To endure after suffering for His name they would need to have the Holy Spirit. So i wonder if the Holy performers at church have went out and preached the Gospel in the streets as Jesus and his Disciples did, and really experienced the work of the Holy Spirit. That is just my two cents. In final I will say that there are those in Church who are playing with God and this cannot be overlooked. Maybe Hell is going to have to open her mouth much wider to receive these folks. For the record, I definitely believe in the Gifts of The Holy Spirit and would not try to persuade any one in any other direction. You decide, Holy Spirit or Holy Foolishness.

I am a Pentecostal…God Bless uuuu
that is very interesting
The Bible does say not to forbid to speak in tongues, but that is not the gift of the holy Spirit. There are several gifts of the holy Spirit and not everyone has the same one. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied with a loud voice, she did not speak in tongues. There are other examples of receiving the holy spirit without tongues. I do believe in tongues, but it is not the only gift of the Spirit.
I agree with mama. Paul said that God is not a God of disorder but of peace. (I Cor 14:33) He also said in verse 39: Be eager to prophesy and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.
I have been to Pentacostal churches where the service was pure chaos, and others, where people were also speaking in tongues where the atmosphere was alive but reverent.
Personally – I have never experienced this gift – I would welcome it if the Holy Spirit gave it to me, but I do not seek it. I think that putting someone into a room and trying to force the HS to give a gift is not mandated in Scripture.
whilst i disagree with religion in general and am an atheist i enjoyedd the article
I have been a member of a church where speaking in tongues was common. I,however, never received that gift. Great piece for discuss.
I agree. Very good article. Thank you, Liz
Terrific piece.
My mom is pentocostal and I and I am undemonial .
I do not like passing judgement on people for their choice of religion.
I am happy that People are celebrating the love of God.
very interesting piece my dear friend
I found your article very interesting. While I have never recieved the Holy Ghost I have seen others speak in tongues. I guess I have never really understood it or would not leave myself open to it.
I am afraid I fall in to the skeptic category. Or perhaps skeptic is too strong a word to define where I sit. Personally, I think too much is made of the showy gifts, along with the requisite – there must be something wrong with your walk if you don’t experience them.
I won’t say they do not manifest today, I will not argue with Christ who said – “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:”
I will simply say that lest we forget – serving, teaching, speaking, giving, leading, encouraging, mercy, administration, and yes even faith are also gifts of the Holy Spirit.
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.
There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
There are different kinds of workings,
but the same God works all of them in all men.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good…
All these are the work of one and the same Spirit,
and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.
I don’t really sure Christ himself would like to preach about Holy Spirit. He is more willing to tell about God more than others.
Jesus is alive. The same, yesterday, today and forever. God is Spirit and His divine revelations are spiritual and not mental.
God the Father in the name of Christ Jesus is transforming the world with His truth through vessels who have submitted to His spiritual guide by the revelation from the Holy Spirit.
I like that you said about church being like ice cream and everyone has a favorite flavor I had never looked at it that way.
Well said. Like it!
great powerful write..thanks for the share..stay blessed my friend..your fan..obikelvin
This article confused me somewhat. You state the the Holy Spirit was given to the Jews, then infer that He is with anyone who works for the cause of God in a public forum. Yet speak glowingly about the Pentacostal church where the Spirit is made evident. You may want to re-evaluate and see if this piece says what you want it to say.
the truth is, according to scripture, we are to seek His help in everything we do; not for a show, but for the discerning of truth and support in our daily walk. The Spirit is who indwells and helps us. Specific gifts given to all, and all are responsible to discover what their gift is and how best to use it to serve the God who blessed us with it. At least that’s how I see it.
