Honor Thy Father and Mother

An expanded argument supporting the idea of gendered partnership as inherent, and indispensable, to Deity as it is to the human relationship and family unit.

God’s law commands that reverence is due from children toward their parents.

Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God gives thee. (Exodus 20:12)

But if we think of God’s spirit as the fertilizer (yes – sperm!) and of Mother Earth as the womb (remember God breathed into the being He had fashioned out of dust which is the finest particulate form of the rock which sustains us), then undeniably we can apply the 5th commandment to one Supreme Father and one Mother Superior with equal certainty and vigor as is afforded our carnal parentage.

But have we honored our Mother?

No, we have not!  We rape her in various ways on a daily basis. The one way that I am personally reminded of, every day as I dwell in the southwest part of the Permian Basin, is the endless drilling for oil and natural gas.  It is literally endless; not the oil but the quest for the oil.  It is to the point lately that, in certain locations, they just mark off a grid and pop a hole in every intersection. The odds are good enough to assume that it must be, from some perspectives, a more economical practice than to hire geologists and surveyors as was done in the not-yet-distant-past.

Not to mention the crap and refuse we constantly and thoughtlessly dump into her life giving waters with impunity – just to have our easy plastics and other unnatural substitutes for things we can make in a more natural way; which is, in my opinion, everything!

Old tires can be used for the basis of unique and energy efficient adobe homes, along with many other nearly non- and non-biogradables that we continue manufacturing and throwing away at an alarming rate. The sun, wind, and water have endless potential to amply provide energy for all human needs. Holistic gardening/farming, using nature’s long-established organic interactions to control pests and disease while promoting a synergistic means to thrive, can only improve not only the health of humanity but that of our Mother, as well.

Mainstream Christianity has traditionally declared any reverence or adoration for our Mother Earth to be inexcusable idolatry, ignorant paganism, and sometimes even wicked enough to be called satanism.

Yet this is total disregard for a promise found in the bible: To destroy them that destroy the earth!

And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou should give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and should destroy them which destroy the earth.  (Revelation 11:18)

It might be that Christianity will feel like a jilted bride after it is revealed that there has been a Goddess married to God all along – and that it/she isn’t an exclusively selected mix-gender horde!

But there is truly good news in all this…

One day, all men will eventually come to know what it is like to be gods and their women will be realized as beautiful goddesses!

  • Abraham and Sarah
  • Isaac and Rebekkah
  • Jacob and Rachel
  • Joseph and Asenath
  • Moses and Zipporah
  • David and Abigail
  • David and Bathsheba (yeah, that’s two for David, but out of 8!)
  • Solomon and his Shulamite
  • Isaiah and his Prophetess
  • Zechariah and Elizabeth
  • Jesus and Miriam
  • Aquila and Prisca

All these are excellent models for us, as gods and goddesses in training!

Even Hagai and Gomer: consider the idea of Israel as the harlot who was chastised greatly, with terrible humiliations in front of all, and yet she bore her discipline without protest or moving to flee. Then, when God said ‘I’m going to woo her back and restore her position, beauty, and adornments,’ she humbly allowed Him to remove her reproach and she again became worthy of the clean white linen status of a pure and chosen bride, the wife of His youth to whom He had remained devoted!

And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.  (Revelation 17:6)

But WHY did John wonder in admiration at the whore of Babylon?

She received condemnation for her actions but not upon her soul, yet she still loved and stayed loyal to her husband’s authority over her: she took her chastening in silence and was pardoned.  Why did she deserve to drink the blood of martyrs and saints? Remember the blood of Christ is included in that so therefore that elixir is a blessed one that gives life and knowledge and wisdom and fullness; and this is not the cup of wrath – Jesus drank that already!

John marveled because she loved with all her being.

She gave her love freely, with no gain but with much loss! She suffered loss of both reputation and status as God’s queen. She loved all the creatures God created, both corporeal and non-corporeal. She made sure that even the really confused were not lost or left out: if they ‘fornicated’ with God’s wife they were still connected to God!  She loved them so much she couldn’t bear for them to be condemned alone.  Upon herself, she took their sin, shame, and inevitable punishment! She deceived them all only in letting them think that there are ways around God’s infinite love! He will not lose a single one of us. Neither will she!  They are our parents!

Perhaps the only real issue that Institutional Christianity has with Paganism is that it regards Deity as a balanced heterosexual partnership that esteems both sexes as two parts of ONE whole – therefore, honor for Gaia is a direct threat upon the ‘divine’ fraternity of this age!  Gaia is not a discarded wife or a doomed whore!  She watches over, nourishes, and protects the cradle of spiritual fertility: humanity!

Without the field of the Earth where would the seed of Spirit be able to secure its roots in order to grow and prosper?

Without seed, a Father is a form without function. Without a Mother’s womb, there are no children! And without any children, honor is mute.
