I have a friend. A dear friend with whom I attend my church. She grew up mormon and until a few years ago was ok living that life. But more and more was seeking more spiritual fullfillment. I invited her to come with me to my non mormon Calvary Chapel. She did, and has been with me regulalry for the last few years.
That being said, I couldn’t get her to understand the trilogy. As it is the BASIS for a christ followers belief- it is imperative that she grasp this idea for her better understanding.

After 2 years of explaining it to her the only way I knew how she asked her cousin who also attends a Calvary Chapel.
The correspondence follows:
Iwas reading your facebook, and read something that I have been questioning lately. And maybe just maybe you can
help. So my religion background is: Mormon Mormon Mormon, did I mention all I know is ,Mormonism LOL ok, I have done the LDS Temple sealing and stuff, and I just have this void, so I went to church with a friend (she had been
bugging me for two years to try something different) And I loved it!!! It is Calvery Chapel: http://www.calvaryccm.com/en/home.aspx
anyway my thing is this: Mormons believe God, his son Jesus, Holy Ghost, three separate entities. But my friend’s say God is Jesus. Jesus is God’s mortal being, one the same. Calvery says Jesus is the right side of God,
his son, our
connection to God. My question then is: are they one of the same, or different beings ie: one all mighty and his son?
Does this sound confusing?
She had sent the back and forth to me so I would know that someone got through to her. The answer from her cousin follows.
We believe as the word teaches (the Bible, and we also attend a Calvary Chapel) there are many references through the word that teaches that Jesus is God and that he is also the Son who died for our sins and the only way to God the Father. Simply put- God the father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit is one way to understand the truth of the trinity. There is only one God, with three functions. Another way to look at the trinity is to think of water, ice and steam, made from the same properties but each having a different function. God is the creator of every thing, and not limited by time or space as we are and because he is God he can do whatever he wants even being three different functions of his personality at
the same time! The Trinity is definitely one of those that can be confusing until you understand, and I believe it does take the Holy Spirit to teach a person and enlighten there understanding. I love the Gospel of John where it says; John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God, He was with God in the beginning, then in John 1:14 it says; and the Word became “flesh” and dwelt among us and his own did not receive him. (It’s talking about Jesus-another reason to respectfully uphold the Word of God-the Bible because as it says in 2 Timothy 3:16- new
testament “All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, for training in righteousness and for building up the body of Christ-New American Standard version loosely quoted by Terri) Also in the gospel of John, Jesus says to one of his disciples, “if you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the father”. Read the whole book of John, it’s
great and will answer many of these questions, It also mentions how God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth, and it teaches about becoming “born-again”, again by his Spirit!!
I may not have been the one with the brilliant way of thinking about it- but I am glad someone did for her sake. If there is any confusion about what is, or what something means- keep asking until it is made so you can understand.
Again, this is the cornerstone to the faith so I thought it imperative to share. A well thought out answer given to a very deserving question.
