How to be a Saint

If you’re born-again, you’re a saint.

The Catholics believe a person can be declared a saint only if he is dead, has miracles accorded to them, and they lived an exemplary life.  But according to the Bible, all who are born-again are saints.  The Apostle Paul wrote to the saints of the churches he sent epistles to and those people were very much alive.  So if you are born-again, you are a saint.

Jesus told Nicodemus that he had to be born-again in order to have everlasting life.  There are many who believe he accepted Christ as his Savior and is now in Heaven.  He became a saint because either you’re a “saint” or an “ain’t.”

You don’t have to live a perfect life in order to be a saint and you might be unknown when you die.  But as long as you have Jesus Christ as your Savior, you’re as much a saint as Saint Peter is.  Neither do you need to have people claim a miracle healing happened because they prayed to you after you die.  The Apostle Paul wrote in I Timothy 2:5 that Christ Jesus was the only mediator between God and man.   So if you are praying to some Catholic saint to help you or do something great, you may be wasting your breath.

God expects us to live lives that are pleasing to him.  He wouldn’t expect anything less from one of his saints.   Even the Apostle Paul had to complain about what certain saints did.

Take Saint Peter, for instance.  When he told Jesus that no one would put him to death, Jesus told him, “Get behind me, Satan.”  Doesn’t sound like something Jesus would tell a saint.  Even the Apostle Paul had to separate from him when he wanted to reach only the Jews instead of all people as Jesus had commanded his followers before leaving for Heaven.   Peter was a respecter of people which God doesn’t approve of.  But we can thank Paul for reaching the Gentiles.

As a saint, try to live like a saint at all times.  It’s going to be hard with all the temptations around us and battling the flesh.  But when you stand before God in Heaven at the Judgement, I pray that you can hear him say “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
