Investigating The Miraculous: Man Brought Back From Death When Doctor Prayed

Some do not think miracles occur today, but for us who very well know that they do, we find such events fascinating. We can also learn from them. This is the first in a series of articles on some miracles of our time, and in each case we are going to see through video a specific aspect of touching the throne of God through Christ.

It is true that faith, really the faith of Christ, is needed for a variety of miracles to occur. According to James such faith is more than “head faith.” James 2:19 states, “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble,” and verse 26 reads, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” Considering those two verses, please view the following video: http://www.godvine.com/Man-Dies-and-Returns-to-Life-on-the-Operating-Table-420.html before you continue with this article, then ask, “What characteristic did Dr. Crandle display in regard to faith?” If that link is expired, just continue reading for a synopsis.

You saw in the re-enactment the following things:

1. A man named Jeff felt horribly sick and went to a hospital where he collapsed in full cardiac arrest.

2. Hospital staff immediately worked on the man.

3. Cardiologist Dr. Chauncey Crandle was called into the Emergency Room. He described the action as a battle, and the room like a war zone. Here I have to think of spiritual warfare.

4.After everything possible was done to bring Jeff back, Dr. Crandle called the time of death.

5 Dr. Crandle updated the chart, walks out, but a voice says turn around and go pray for the man.

6. At first, Dr. Crandle ignores the voice, but he was told again to turn around and go pray for the man. So, to honor the Lord, he does, even though Dr. Crandle was busy.

7. Dr. Crandle walks back in and states the nurse looked at him as if to say, “What are you doing here?”

8. Dr. Crandle lays his hands on Jeff’s chest and prays out loud that God would revive him if Jeff was not an inheritor of Eternal Life.

9. He asks a fellow doctor to shock him one more time. The fellow doctor respectfully objects at first, but did so after Dr. Crandle said to do it for him (Dr. Crandle).

10. Jeff was shocked and his life was restored.

11. A few days later Dr. Crandle asks Jeff where he was who replied he was in total darkness and all alone for eternity.

12. In Jeff’s words, Dr. Crandle asked him to “accept God.” I will assume Dr. Crandle asked Jeff to surrender to Christ. Jeff does.

As I watched the video, I picked out a number of things Dr. Crandle faced that I could identify with, and perhaps you could too. He was busy and felt he did not have time to go back and pray. Making eye contact with the nurse he gets some spiritual resistance. I’m not belittling the nurse, but keep in mind medical people are very trained and disciplined in their field. Society would teach us this is a “professional setting,” not a venue for “religion.” The staff has tasks they need to do.

Because faith is not only “the substance of things hoped for,” it is “the evidence of things unseen. A foundational evidence of our faith is obedience, which I feel is a theme of this video.

Despite the resistance he met, even the resistance within himself, Dr. Crandle lays his hands on Jeff’s chest. He could have prayed quietly, but I believed he prayed out loud, and perhaps, in part, to hush the nurse. It is imperative that when God tells us to do something that we focus upon doing it. When anointing homes, I avoid making eye contact with anyone.

Dr. Crandle prayed. Then he asked the other doctor to shock Jeff again, but that doctor hesitates as described above. Remember that Dr. Crandle felt like he had to honor God and turn back to pray? Dr. Crandle said, that after the second request, out of respect and honor the other doctor shocked Jeff. I feel the second doctor honored Dr. Crandle’s request because Dr. Crandle had obediently honored God.

Jeff immediately responds. The nurse screams, “What have you done?” At this point, without knowing how she really felt, I have to wonder why someone would scream something like that. Sorry, but I do have to think about 1 Samuel 22:12.

But it was almost as if those words were supposed to be used by satan* to bring some sort of dishonor to the doctor.

Notice that Dr. Crandle said that day was not one of his “big faith” days. Aye, when we are weak, then we are strong. That seems like the best time to exercise our faith, to put it into action, to obey.

I am sorry for the times I have disobeyed God in this respect. I even had a decent chance one time to pray for the dead. I flubbed it, and will probably tell you about it in a later article.

Satan would have us though to look at our failures, and not our steps of obedience in Christ. Let us seek God’s forgiveness when we fail and determine we will obey.

Perhaps you, like me, are like Dr. Crandle. Sometimes you have to hear God twice. Sometimes the reason I do is because I want to make sure it is God and not me.

But the bottom line is we need to obey, doing so by the works of Christ through the Holy Spirit within us.

I’m so sorry the video isn’t working for us. Good lesson for us. Sometimes God tells us to do something that sounds nuts to others. When we do it, what a blessing for all. I know what you mean about wanting to hear God twice.

Obedience to that still small voice, especially in public with unbelievers watching, can be so intimidating. You second guess yourself ‘was it really God, or just my imagination?’ What if nothing happens? This doctor obeyed, and from what you described, maybe a soul was given a second chance at eternal life. Good story.

You have a special form of narration through numbers, and it’s effective to illumine the highlights. And the message you leave behind is unforgettable.
