There is a long standing belief in Christian theology that many believe to be true. This belief has accounted for much of the anti-Semitic rhetoric history of the Church and Western society in general. What is this belief? The belief is that the Church replaced Israel as God’s “Chosen People”. Not that hard to understand, right? Jews today don’t believe that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah, so God doesn’t care about them. This thinking has polluted many churches today, and explains much of why many in the church give little thought to Israel, and Jews worldwide. I am going to prove, however, that the Bible clearly states that Israel will always be God’s chosen people, and that the Church never replaced anything.
The Bible states very clearly in Jeremiah 31:37,
“This is what the LORD says:
“Only if the heavens above can be measured
and the foundations of the earth below be searched out
will I reject all the descendants of Israel
because of all they have done,”
declares the LORD.”
God clearly has not, and will never leave Israel. The Church has a very bad habit of taking verses from the Old Testament and thinking they can simply replace Israel with the Church. This is very dangerous, as Israel was awarded certain rights and privileges that we as Christians simply cannot claim, such as the divine right to the land of Israel. After the events that took place in New York when members of the Extremist Christian Westboro Baptist Church passed out slips of paper during the Jewish High Holy Days, I really have to consider how many so called Christians are merely anti-Semitic bigots in disguise.
To all the Jews who read this article, please understand that true Christianity doesn’t revolve around the persecution of your people. I myself deeply care and pray for the peace of Israel and Jerusalem. I apologize on behalf of the so-called Christians.
