Current Beliefs
Jewish traditions, still practiced today, substituted the real name God for one of His titles such as Father, Adonai or others, as a sign of respect for the sacredness of His name. The King James Version (KJV) follows this same custom and have replaced His name with the words LORD or GOD printed in capitals. The KJV is the accepted and most correct version of the Bible throughout Christian religions around the world, however, two religions expand further upon this teaching being the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Bible itself refers to the sacred of the name Jehovah in Exodus chapter 6 verse 3 where it says that the prophets Abraham, Isaac and Jacob called Him God Almighty and not Jehovah.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses (JWs) use the New World Translation (NWT) of the Bible which was retranslated by a committee. JWs will argue that their NWT version of the Bible was retranslated to be inline with the original Bible text however, how can this be when there are no surviving copies of the original Bible scrolls? This committee translation resulted in many verses being taken out of the Bible because they aren’t inline with JW doctrine (doesn’t the Book of Revelations say those who take away or add to it will be cursed…) and many verses being changed to include the name Jehovah, more than the KJV version. JWs believe that Jehovah is God the Father and that Jesus Christ is the Archangel Michael and not eternal.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church or Mormons) accept the KJV as the Word of God and use the same version as other Christian religions. What sets the LDS Church apart is they believe that Jehovah of the Old Testament is in fact Jesus Christ in the New Testament before He was born to Mary and received a physical mortal body. The name of Jehovah, like in ancient times, is still considered sacred so is not used very often. The LDS Church believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and works under the direction of God the Father. They believe Jesus died for the sins of the world and is the centre of their worship.
Other religions around the world seem not to have an opinion or formal standing on the issue of Jehovah or Jesus Christ. With the people and ministers asked, they refer to the idea of the trinity in that the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are one being combined together, yet are three seperate beings. Sounds very confusing and unrealistic.
Scriptures That Show Jesus and Jehovah are the Same Person
Below is a list of scriptures that show Jehovah speaking to His prophets in the Old Testament, and Jesus Christ, using the same titles, refering to Himself, in the New Testament.
- The Saviour – in Isaiah chapter 43 verses 3 and 11, Jehovah is refering to Himself as the Saviour. Compares this to Luke chapter 2 verse 11 and First John chapter 4 verse 14 it refers to Jesus Christ being our Saviour.
- Salvation – Isaiah chapter 2 verse 2 says that Jehovah is our salvation. This is also repeated by the Apostls in Acts chapter 4 verses 10 to 12 where they say salvation comes through Christ and no other.
- The Rock – Moses in Deuteronomy chapter 32 verses 3 and 4 states that the LORD is the Rock. This is repeated by Paul in First Corinthians chapter 10 verse 4 where he says that Christ is the Rock.
- The First and Last – Isaiah chapter 48 verse 12 and Revelations chapter 22 verse 13 both refer to them as the First and the Last.
- King – Isaiah chapter 33 verse 22 says “the LORD is our King” and John chapter 12 verses 13 and 15 refer to Christ as the King.
- I Am – in Exodus chapter 3 verse 14 God speaks to Moses and says “I AM THAT I AM”. In John chapter 8 verse 58 (actually read verses 52 to 58 for the whole story) Jesus says “Before Abraham was, I Am”.
So from the Bible, we can see that it teaches Jehovah and Jesus Christ are the same person. Jehovah is the name given to the God of the Old Testament, the spirit form of Jesus before He came to earth to complete the Atonement in the New Testament. Jehovah is not God the Father, who is so sacred His name is not mentioned in the Bible out od respect and honour. You can see how much Christs’ name is taken in vain, imagine if the Fatehr name was too – wouldn’t be a good result for us.
We know the attributes of God and that He can not lie, but only speaks truth. The Bible teaches the true nature of Jehovah and Jesus Christ. The many misunderstandings that exist in religion today are the result of man doing what they want. If they read the Bible with the Spirit, the truth will be made known and the truth will set you free.

Jehovah is a manmade form of the Hebrew word Yahweh, which is the true name of God. The Hebrew word Yahweh means “I Am”
