There are many different representations of holy places, just as diverse as the many religions worldwide. The most well known holy building is probably a church, which has been part of Christian religion for many centuries. Muslims frequent a mosque, where people assemble five times a day to pray, all while facing the direction of Mecca, their holy city. In Hinduism and Buddhism, the rituals and prayers are often done in special temples, which can be found throughout Asia. But many nature religions, like Santeria and other beliefs from Africa, have the convenience of a small altar in the very home of people. Not only is this a place of prayer, but often small offerings are performed here as well.
