Often in life people need guidance. They are bombarded with good and bad advice from sources the world over. People need to be able to take correct decisions and not live in the valley of decision. There are often great risks involved in decision-making. The Bible says that we need to ask God to guide us. Let us use an acrostic to help us remember the promises of God that we need to claim with respect to guidance.
The premise for the acrostic on guidance is found in Isa. 42:16:
Isa. 42:16 “And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things STRAIGHT. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.”
Here is a mnemonic device in acrostic form based on this text:
S– Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the
prophets (Amos 3:7).
T – The steps of a goodman are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way (Psa. 37:23).
R – Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the
LORD shall be a light unto me (Micah 7:8).
A – And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have
not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things
will I do unto them, and not forsake them (Isa. 42:16). (See also Isa. 35:8 and Isa. 58:11 for more texts on
guidance starting with “A.”).
I – I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine
eye. (Psa. 32:8) (See also Prov. 3:6; John 12:46).
G – Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way. The meek will he
guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way (Psa. 25:8-9).
H – Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not
speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you
things to come (John 16:13).
T– Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me
shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (John 8:12).
There are a few alternative texts given above. Choose the ones that best suit you. Claim God’s promises and let God guide you. Let us get it “straight” that God’s advice and guidance are unbeatable.
