One Step at a Time.
There is only one course of action that our lives will take. Every decision or choice we make will only happen once. Therefore the course of our lives will take one path. We read our lives like a book, one moment at a time. The question is, Is the book already completely written from start to finish and we simply experience it one moment at a time as we follow its course? or, Is the book written as we go along?
This is a question we cannot know the answer to. C.S. Lewis surmised in Mere Christianity that this is the case, that this is how we experience time but to God there is no time. God exists in eternity and infinity. And Jesus is the liaison between God and humanity.
I myself am not a Christian for I question the relevance of Jesus and any manuscript written by humans at any given time although we may cumulatively be able to achieve an understanding of God, I am not sure we have done so to date.
Is there only one course our lives will take or are there many options of courses it may take? If there is only one, it eliminates the what ifs that we are so inclined to imagine. What if I had done this instead of that? Or what if I had done this certain thing differently? What if this had not happened? What if this had happened?
There may be many courses that our lives could take. Or there may be only one that our lives will take. But it does seem to be a fact that there is one course our lives will end up taking and that we will experience it each millisecond, or nanosecond even, at a time, as it unravels before us.

Nicely written; excellent points. I am also a C.S. Lewis fan, although I prefer his stories for children to his more serious works. Your article reminds me of Kathy Mar’s song “word of God”. You can listen to it at http://www.prometheus-music.com/audio/wordgod.mp3 .
Very thought provoking Walter…
