It’s amazing how hollow we can get when judging people. A night out with friends means hours on end of laughter at people’s expense. I wonder …Are we really this entertainment starved?. Gone are the days when you could just sit and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee without doing anything. Now we need entertainment even while we are sipping that wanted cuppa. We want to have a bite while our eyes are fixated on a movie or a screen of some sort.
It’s amazing how screens have multiplied. Big and small, they come in all sizes. Mobiles, iPods, televisions, laptops, Psp’s etc… The list goes on. We even take them to the loo as bowels need inspiration and entertainment too. In the olden days, entertainment in the loo could have been a good novel or a magazine. These days, Gadgets and Gizmos have taken the charm out of a lazy afternoon. I see people out for a walk or a jog, but, they aren’t talking to each other as they have headphones stuffed into their ears, but, they are running together. Maybe that’s something. We are all so tech savvy that we have replaced people with machines. Does that mean, we are emotionally more stable? Could it be helping us in keeping a sound mind that isn’t dependent on the way people treat us? I think it is creating psychological issues where people believe in the online world more than they do in the real one. They are definitely devoting more time to images of people sitting on the other side of the web. And then there‘s online gaming. It can quite easily turn you into a couch potato for five hrs straight on.
No wonder my 6 month old is interested in serious looking mobiles and laptops more than her cute, cuddly and colourful toys. We are moving ahead very fast. We are making more and more machines to help us with our lives. But, is this comfort costing us our peace of mind? I think it is. The more we get, the more we want and whatever there is, doesn’t satisfy us after a certain period of time. We are not building bonds with people who are God’s gift to us. Instead we have a hundred things to keep us busy. Yet we are dead bored, but, we also don’t have time. It’s a packed day, with a thousand chores, following us to the bed and waking up with us in the morning.
I also believe that variety in everything has made us impatient. Take watching television for example. We don’t know what all the channels are showing because we keep on switching from one to another in microseconds. And we hear ourselves saying “there’s nothing on TV”, almost every day. When we walk, we walk fast, when we talk, we talk fast and when we eat, we gobble quickly.
We are turning into machines too.. Only we have a life to live with no warranties. It’s one life, one body and it’s now or never. We really need to take care of ourselves. Let’s invest in half an hour of “me time” and spend it with a loved one every day, without the help of any machines. It’s definitely a difficult task. Are you in?

A lot of this rings very true, although I barely use any other gadgets besides my computer and cell phone. we have had power outages here more recently and as annoying as they can be, I feel like I’ve had some real conversations with people and learnt to really listen during these times. To me, one of the most annoying things is when i see people playing games or listening to a song while they’re in company.
