I have been studying and educated in theology and religon for many years and I have noticed that there are many parallels and many similar stories between Christianity, the bible, and ancient paganism. For example, Samson was Hercules, the golden apples was the forbidden fruit in the garden of eden in Genesis. The snake in the garden of eden that tempted Eve was the dragon in Greek mythology that guarded the golden apples, pander’s box and the temptation of Eve. In the bible way back in the old testament there is a story of a flood and there is also a story of a flood in Greek mythology. Also in the book of Genesis in the bible God said, “Let us make man in our image” and in Greek mythology Zeus the king of the gods said, “Let us make man in the image of the gods”.
There are also many parallels between Jesus Christ and the Greek god Bacchus who was the god of wine in Greek mythology. Bacchus was born before three shepherds in a stable from a virgin mother on December 25 like Jesus was and the Greek god Bacchus was also crucified to die for the sake of mankind like Jesus. Bacchus in Greek mythology also resurrected from the dead on the third day like Jesus.
Easter was a pagan holiday in the Greek empire that was named after the Greek goddess Ishtar and the egg was the food that kept her immortal and the rabbit was the animal that represented and symbolized her and the animal she was associated with. In today’s society christian churches will do easter egg hunts and those same churches do not even realize that they are actually practicing an old pagan custom and tradition. It seems as if people nowadays who are against paganism so much actually practice paganism themselves.
There a lot of Jesus freak parents out there who warn their kids not to practice paganism but yet they will let their kids go trick or treating on Halloween and most of us do know that Halloween was a pagan holiday of the ancient Druids in the times before Christ. A lot of Christians nowadays will look up there horoscope in the newspaper and astrology and divination also was a practice among the pagans and was against the jewish laws in the books of Moses.
A lot of decorations we use today were originally pagan decorations such as Christmas trees, candy canes, and holly wreaths decked the halls of the pagan temples of the ancient Greek goddess Diana in the ancient Greek empire and to this day we use these same decorations not only for our house but also for christian churches. Now don’t get me wrong I am a christian myself and I am a strong believer in the christian church and I strongly support the organization of Christianity and have very great respect for it but I just think that people need to be more liberal and more open minded and more aware of what is going on. For if it wasn’t for the pagans we would not have the hanging gardens, the pyramids, or Stonehenge. So therefore, I support the old wisdom as well as the new.
