People See What They Need to See

People see confirmation of their faith in some weird places. In the clouds, on a tree, in a church window. It doesn’t matter where, people will see what they need to see. But wouldn’t it be wiser to show their faith by taking care of their fellow man, rather than looking for signs? What do you think?

People of faith look to God for confirmation of that faith. Human beings need to see the proof of evidence in spite of what they believe in. It’s easy to make fun of people who see God in a potato or a piece of toast, but is it kosher? These sightings usually take place where the population is very religious, the southern United States for instance. But they are not exclusive to the south. I once went to a place where crowds of people were worshiping a tree because supposedly the face of Christ was embedded in the bark. All I could see was some beetle eaten bark. That doesn’t mean these people didn’t see what they thought they saw. There is a saying I have heard, “Which man is really crazy, the one who hears thunder and thinks it’s the voice of God, or the one who hears the voice of God and thinks it’s only thunder?”

What is the harm in a world that is filled with hate and confusion for believers to see what they need to see? But wouldn’t it be a better world if people of faith sought ways to affirm God themselves rather than the other way around? The Quran says, “Who so saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind.” Jesus said, “Love one another, take care of one another.” How many churches do that? I see huge well kept churches sitting empty while homeless people sleep on the street. I see respected members of the church living in costly homes and riding in expensive cars while poor people struggle to get food for their children’s empty bellies. I would like a good explanation of why this is so. When people exhibit this behavior they are not truly following any religion other than mouthing the words, certainly not by doing the deeds.

Madelyn Rakestraw of Iowa saw the face of Christ in a smudge on her wall. Her minister said, “Your house is blessed. God has spoken.” A man in Texas saw Mary the mother of Jesus on a receipt from Walmart. These sacred images do pop up in some strange places. But maybe Jesus looks like a hungry child you pass on the street, or a sick old man in the nursing home who has no visitors. Maybe believers should use their spare time taking care of these people as Jesus said, rather than looking for pictures in the clouds or smudges on the wall.

True believers in God do help the poor and the hungry and the widows and orphans, but everyone should do what they can
and then help them up so they can get on with their lifes.
Not everyone that appears to be religious is a true believer .
and there are hypcocrites at the grocery store this is not Gods fault those that trully follow him help where they can, but all people should look in the mirror and not always find fault in others.

That is the irony of life. It is sad actually. Regarding the lavish living of some religious leaders while there are hungry people on the streets, yeah, sadly there are plenty of them, even in my country. I think there are more selfish and blind believers than those who believe and do what is REALLY right.

I believe that God always provides evidence on which to base our faith. Faith is not a mere feeling or a mere impression. It is the result of a relationship with God where you begin to trust Him even when all the evidence is not given but there is sufficient on which to base your faith. There are fulfilled Bible prophecies that were very detailed as far as dates and events go, given hundreds and thousands of years before the event happened. Archeology also attests to the authenticity of the Bible as well. True science and knowledge never contradicts the Word. It is false science that does.

We live in individualistic society. It is sad.

I agree about these “religious” sightings – mold in the bathroom that looks just like Jesus, the virgin Mary outlined in a shadow on the wall at the Tim Hortons that attracts crowds of those in need of a blessing. I really don’t see how this could bolster anyone’s faith, and it detracts from real miracles.

The Church in North America is fixated on a few issues which are important, but we could be doing a whole lot more if more of our time and resources were focused on helping the poor.

Faith without works is dead. If we are truly faithful, then we are compelled to help those in need.

Another sad fact of life, but so true, Ruby. People will talk the talk, but when it comes time to walk the walk, they do absolutely nothing!

Really enjoyed this article I have to say that I believe in God but I do not believe in Religion. I do not like how the world has become split into so many Religions that for what ever reason do not get on together. The World has seen enough hurt than to carry on hurting people in the name of religion. Your article was spot on and should be read by all.
    God Bless

I think most people do spend their time sharing God’s love in those ways ;-)
They do it in everyday acts of care, even the decisions they make about where to park. That is how people build character, by constantly making decisions that are selfless. This is how become more like Jesus.

We’re supposed to be like Christ, and the one thing that really upsets and aggravates me, is hippocrites, the people that proclaim Christianity, and judge others…Jesus would not judge, and would help others
    .
    Good article…

It is a wonder why people can walk into a church, but not bother to walk beside a struggling brother. I’ve been going to our county prison for 6 years to study scripture with the most violent of the men there. I have to say that is where I find Christ more than any other place in my life. Thanks for a good insight,m Ruby.
