Poltergeist or Possession? A Look at Demons in Disguise.

Demons can take many subtle forms, and they can confuse us with their duplicities. Are hauntings really done by ghosts or are they actually demonic?

Unquestionably, the world has a fascination for all things supernatural, including those things that are distinctly occultish. Witchcraft, Voodoo, Spiritism, Mysticism, you name it, people are enthralled by it. The appeal is understandable. We strive to comprehend the incomprehensible and to put it even more simply, we love to try to scare ourselves. The question to ask yourself is, what is it that scares me? Is it ghosts haunting my house? Witches chanting incantations in the moonlight? Werewolves and Vampire bats? Urban legends and ghost stories at the campfire? Any number of things can scare us, but the thrill is in the seeking of the thrill. Hence, people end up entering the world of the Occult in subtle ways they usually are not even aware of.

Are there such things as ghosts? How about Poltergeists, or “mischievous spirits” if you prefer. Let’s explore that question for a moment. Ghost stories have gone as far back into history as the minds that created them, but what exactly, are these tales based upon? In the Bible God speaks about the living and the dead. He states, “absent from the body, present with the Lord.” Taken in that context, one would think that all people who die automatically and instantly go to Heaven. Further excursions into the Scriptures reveals that not all people do go to Heaven but there are in fact, two destinations for the dead, but for the sake of this argument we will assume that all people do go to Heaven when they die. Now, if that is the case, then where are these ghosts coming from? Are they faked by people who wish to become famous? Are they just lonely people playing tricks on others? There really are only two options here. Either they are real or they are not.

If these hauntings are real, and if they are not being caused by the dead, (see hypothetical conclusion above) then we need to look elsewhere to find the source of these hauntings. The fact is, there are other spirits out there besides just our own, there are angels and there are demons. The demons are, in fact, nothing more than angels that have fallen from Grace. They are evil beings who live to deceive and one of the ways they deceive us is by pretending to be something they are not. They pose as outer space aliens, they pose as angels, they pose as ghosts. Why not? If they can get even one of us to believe them then they figure they have won. We humans play with fire when we play with Tarot cards and Oija boards because these things open up windows between our world and the world of the demonic. A great percentage of the time a personal haunting can be traced back to something occultish that the haunted person was once involved in. This would not be the case if the haunted structure was once home to a person who died and now haunts the domain.

So to be complete in our search for the truth about hauntings, we must at least assume that demons do participate in the occasional haunt, which would, it seems, make the haunting even more frightening for people of a squeamish nature. Is this assumption logical? I’m sure many of us would hope not, but truly, if the spirit that is doing the haunting is of an evil nature, or, if you hesitate to use the word, “evil”, then we’ll use mischievous instead, though it is hardly an adequate word, then it should be assumed that the spirit in question is not a benevolent one, and therefore, probably demonic in nature. Yet, we still refuse to use the word demon in context with the word haunting. I believe this is because people do not want to admit that such things as angels and demons actually could exist. Because if they believe in those beings, they would by all rights have to believe also in the God who created those beings. This is something many people are not prepared to do.

As a result we go on asking each other if “ghosts” are real, and all the while ignoring the fact that many of us don’t even believe that human beings have souls, or if we do have them then we all automatically go to Heaven. (Not my personal belief.) What we do not ask is, are demons real, and are they a part of my life? If they are, how do I get rid of them? Nobody ever asks those questions because they are considered archaic and “religious” in nature. It seems that the only way out of this puzzle is to seek the truth, even though many of us believe that truth is relative. When it comes right down to it, the only real truths come from the mouth of God Himself, and those truths shall set us free.

Thanks for posting this on the web i think that alot of people need to read this because it explains alot. I think the reason that demons pretend to be ghosts and aliens is that they want people to blame ghosts and aliens for the rapture.

Yes, Anonymous, you have it there. The devil and his demons don’t like to have us know what they really are. They would rather have us deceived and in the dark, so we can go to hell when we die instead of Heaven. Thanks for visiting and I’m sorry I didn’t notice you right away.

So what would you say to someone who sees dark like shadows? As far as I know that is not a spiritual gift. I don’t even think seeing demons is a gift. I think if you see these things your life is not exactly where God calls it to be.

You would have to explain further, Nessy. All I can say is, if the “shadows” are dark, it is probably not of God, since He dwells in light. Some may argue that seeing angels is not exactly a gift either. Demons and angels are likely to look exactly the same. As far as being where God calls you to be–that spot in the road is different for all of us. We are all in different stages of our travels and learnings. God bless! :)

hello stephanie, just remember,if you ask with sincerity, and in all all honesty, in Jesus name, demons HAVE TO FLEE, they dont have a choice,to debate, with the lord, they have to go. and then just believe ! and then praise the Lord for his mercy and grace. isnt it wonderful to know its all going to be alright, because the savior has everything in his hands. God Bless you.

to michael J or whoever else is reading this. I have had personal experience with ghost or maybe even a demon. Either way, it was asked in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to leave…needless to say it did not. We left and never went back to that house. I believe it was demonic, and think it focused most of its energy to my son(at the time was 2 going on 3). He had it the worst of us all. Now 4 years old he has severe separation anxiety. I believe that thing, ghost or demon, call it what you will, is still in that house, and will never leave.

one other thing, if you are going to tell a Demon to leave in the name of Jesus Christ, you have to have full complete faith in God, or else it will not leave. I know this by experience and scripture. I now know that my faith back then was not strong at all, and the more you challenge sometihng of “evil nature”, without having faith, you make it that much stronger. My faith is a lot stronger now than it was, but I still have bad dreams from those experiences every night and its been a year since we left.

I kind of have the same experience like you did Lucy, except it’s not some one in the family that’s experiencing it, but it’s me. I sometimes have nightmare of the demon or ghost, whatever you call it. Is it possible for that thing to hurt you, physically? Because I keep feeling like someone is stabbing me with a knife at the most random moments and only after one minute the pain stops. What should I do? Honestly, I am really scared of this thing and I have a lot of faith in God, but this isn’t stopping. Again I ask, what should I do?
