Scientists and Their Beliefs

This post is in reference to an online article about a scientist who believes that peoples religious beliefs result from poor education and childhood indoctrination. In this post I will respond to this article from a Christians perspective.

Recently I read an article called Humans ‘evolved’ to believe in God where a scientist named Richard Dawkins stated that “religious beliefs result from poor education and childhood indoctrination.” To me someone has a bad understanding of God or they have never learned of religion. First of all believing there is a God is the first thing to consider because whether you believe that God is real or not determines if you will one day truly believe in religion and form your own religious beliefs. He also stated that religion is similar to a child’s belief inimaginary friends.

He stated that  religious beliefs resulted from poor education and childhood indoctrination, I would have to say that I do not agree with the part about poor education. One reason that I do not believe this is because I have been acquainted with my share of well educated believers and they do not have a poor educational backgrounds. As far as the childhood indoctrination which means to be instructed during childhood is concerned I would have to say that I agree. If you look at the bible in Proverbs 22:6 it states ” train up a child in the way that he should go; And when he is old, he will not depart from it.” This is the reason I believe that childhood indoctrination could be a cause for an adult to turn to religion. A person who is raised in the church, who was been taught about religion has a better chance at having these beliefs. Of course, if you have not been trained up to know about God and religion you will be at a disadvantage because most of the time these are the people who require proof that God exists. For me the proof began with creation, how would you explain the creation of the world, every person and every thing in it? We did not create ourselves, when we were born everything and every person we know already existed. The bible is the only explanation that we have concerning the creation of heaven and earth, the creatures and creeping things and finally man and woman. Lets talk abou the other point which was made in the article, that religion is similar to a child’s beliefs in imaginary friends. There is no factual evidence to consider when talking about an imaginary friend but with religion there is evidence in written form such as the bible and other printed materials.

Who can presume to say where another persons religious beliefs come from. Yes, each person has the right to express their own beliefs but it is every persons right to believe or not to believe in God. Everyone has to decide which religion they believe in. Each person will decide their own fate in the end. Childhood indoctrination may have something to do with peoples religious beliefs but there are still a few believers out here who were not trained up to know about God. Yet, they still have a strong since of religion. How do you think that is? Matthew 11:29 says “Take my yoke upon you , and learn of me; for I am meek and lowely in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Therefore, those who did not have childhood indoctrination still can learn about God and in turn share in the religious beliefs of other believers.

I love the way you responded back. This guy sounds like an idiot. Maybe his childhood upbringing was missing a few things. I wonder if he grew up with these thoughts or did he come from a Christian background. Believe it or not a lot of non believers come from Christian backgrounds. During my college days we had a few topics on scientist. The majority of them are starting to change their minds about there is no God. A lot of scientist are becoming Christians. I enjoyed this one.
