In the form of substance abuse, it always tempts us to choose our own way. This sinful behavior comes to us easily with more of the same until we cannot stop the repetition of it. Eventually, a pattern of disobedience begins to reveal itself – in our minds and bodies – influencing our thinking and extends to our behavior. Telling ourselves there is no harm in what we’re doing, deception compels us to keep going. Eventually, we experience emptiness and pain in place of satisfaction and comfort. We are also left with cravings, less concern for others, guilt, entrapment, a lack of responsibility, and a desire to self-destruct. But through the Holy Spirit, we have the power to say no to the habits that control us.
Titus 2:11-13 “For the Grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and goodly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ.”
