God greatly desires to move in and through us. Living by His Holy Spirit as a child of God is totally satisfying. Who needs religion! The first step is to become a true child of God. This is done by fully surrendering our lives to Christ (Mt. 16:24), admit we have sinned and ask Him to forgive us (Rom. 3:23, 5:21, 1 John 1:9) and fully commit to Him (Rom. 10:9-10). Christ will then dwell within through His Holy Spirit, Who will touch you in the following ways.
I. His Adopting - Rom. 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
We are removed from the generation of Adam and placed in the generation of Christ. I recently mentioned adoption by the Holy Spirit in a message which you can listen to.
II. His Freeing - Rom. 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Before we come to Christ we are enslaved by sin. Once we surrender to Christ, He frees us from our sin and sin nature. The Holy Spirit then trains us to break the habit of sinning. Keep reading in Romans. You will see if you are a true son (child) of God you will be obeying His Holy Spirit.
III. His Guiding – John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
This is certainly comforting. Who needs those cult members knocking on your door, right? Listen carefully to the Holy Spirit, Who will lovingly guide you into the truth about the world, others, and yourself.
IV. His Speaking – 1 Tim. 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Considering all the false prophets in the past decades and the rise of sin, it sure looks like we are in the those latter times! The Holy Spirit not only speaks to hearts, but through true prophets today. However, just make sure whatever you sense or hear matches the Word of God. The Holy Spirit will never contradict the Holy Bible.
V. His Indwelling – Rom. 8:9-11 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
With this, consider John 15 and other portions of the Holy Scriptures that adjure us to permit Christ to dwell within us, and that we continue to dwell in Him.
VI. His Refreshing - Eph. 3:16 (14, 15) For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
Every day can be a flowing of life giving power within us by the Holy Spirit.
VII. His Empowering – Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
If we are truly in Christ, we have a job to do– spreading the Good News of the saving power of Christ. Let the Holy Spirit empower you to do so.
