Halloween
Halloween started as a (pagan)Celtic festival on October 31 called samhain (pronounced sow-him) in
which celebrated the end of the harvest season. Also on October 31 was when they had the Celtic new
year, they believed the ghosts of the dead and all sorts of other mythical creatures would come alive
and walk around that day, these beliefs go back over 2000 years. As the Catholic church’s power
increased they didn’t like the pagan festival so by the 7th century they started to try merge samhain
(the pagan festival) with the christian festival “all saints day” or as the people of the time called
hallowmas, (hallow meaning saintly or holy, thus hallow-mas) which was on November 1st. The day
before hallowmas was another important catholic day “all hallows eve” which over time mixed with
hallowmas creating halloween. In the 1840’s there was a wave of Irish imigrants (potato famine) to
America bringing there culture and ways, then halloween caught on and got quite big and is now a
part of American culture.

Most American Christians would say that its just culture, fun and games, but really look around at the
symbolism and what the little kids dress up as for so called “fun and games”

Now its interesting that the american church has allowed halloween to become so large in america
(Ephesians 6:11-18 “take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”)
Now there are 3 main arguments for Halloween
#1.Christmas and easter both have pagan counterparts like easter was actually the celebration of the fertility god ester (thats why theres the easter bunny) this is true and is not good, the catholic church really screwed up with that, mixing Christianity with paganism is unbiblical and wrong.
#2 is that “All’s hallows eve” and “hallowmas/all saints day” are both nice Christian celebrations and are the opposite of satanism or paganism. technically that is pretty much true but the problem is that Halloween wasn’t brought into america by catholics it was brought in by the Irish and yeah sure they kept the name but Halloween was still completely pagan when it was introduced, Halloween doesn’t have a drop of Christianity in it any more, I mean really when was the last time you saw a “saint o lantern” or heard a kid say “bless or treat” lol.
#3 and of coarse theres the old its just fun and games nothing sadistic or bad.
