Hey all my beautiful whole single sisters! I know this time of year can be stressful, from finals to gift shopping, it can get a little hectic. But, Daddy doesn’t want us swamped by the pace of it all, and He’s been working with me about my stress. Here are some tips for losing that tension in a constructive way… you know, so you don’t snap at the next person who asks you what’s wrong. You know what I mean, gurl!
So, Number 1. Take a mini day retreat.
You could take a whole Saturday or part of a Sunday to just get away with God, a journal, a workbook, and your Bible. It should be in a rest inspiring place like a park or nature center, or a local walking trail. Make sure you have time and space to pour out your heart to God as freely as you want to and time to listen to what He says back to you.
2. Prayer Break in Tongues.
Why in Tounges? Well, you know when something gets so overwhelming that you just don’t know how to pray about it? The Holy Spirit prays for us through us the very thing we need even when we don’t have a clue how to even tell Daddy about it. I use this in those emergency situations when my pressure cooker is at it’s max. Trust me, it’s a big relief to know that Holy Spirit knows what to do and is praying on my behalf!
3. Praise break/ give thanks
Praising God never fails to take my attention away from my perceived problems and refocus it on my almighty capable God. See what I mean? Already I’m thinking about how almighty and capable He is! Aren’t you? If you have the space and dancing is your thing, by all means turn up your favorite praise song and get your praise on girl! If you can’t do that where you are, you could whisper thanks to God about somethings you are really grateful to Him for. Keep going until your mountain looks like a molehill compared to our God. I call this the too blessed to be stressed approach!
4. Work the temple
With this stress buster you can workout and chill out at the same time! It is indeed killing two birds with one stone; taking care of the temple God gave you, and constructively destroying stress. A little music with the workout helps, too. If you need to trick yourself into working out, try dancing around; hey, there’s no shame!
5. Breathing exercises
This one’s simple and you can do it right now! Try it with me. Breath in slowly while counting mentally to ten. When you reach ten, hold your breath for three seconds. Then slowly, like you’re breathing through a straw, expel the breath while counting to ten again. When you reach ten, you should have pushed all the air out of your lungs. Repeat twice. There, better already!
6. Instrumental hymns
I love to turn on instrumental hymns at night after a long day. They have a soothing quality a kin to classical music, but the added spiritual meaning also helps to remind me of who I belong to and who’s really in control. Nothing like a hymn to take you back to the basics.
7. Command your day as stress free
Daddy has given all of us the power to speak life and death over situations. We have dominion and authority over our lives; therefore we can speak to our days and command them to be full and prosperous. When you wake up, set the tone for your day. We impact situations! Situations don’t move us; we’re the King’s Daughters!
8. Do an activity you enjoy on your Sabbath
Plan an activity with God or with friends to do that is stress free and fun packed. While you are doing the activity, be present and engaged. Enjoy being with God and friends to the fullest. If you’re not sure what to do here are a few ideas. But I have to warn you, my idea of fun is… well a bit different What can I say I’m a classy gal!
- Visit an art gallery or museum
- See a play/ movie/ cultural event
- Go ice skating/ roller blading
- Go to a park and pack a picnic
- Read a book with Daddy talking to Him about interesting points and questions you have
- Take a class
- Go to dinner/lunch
9. Talk to Daddy about it
When you catch yourself worrying, just strike up a conversation with Daddy and talk to Him about your concerns instead. Listen for His response because He is always speaking in various ways.
And last but not least 10. Journal
This could also be titled: write Daddy a letter about what’s on your heart. The process can help you get your feelings sorted and talking with Daddy puts you in His presence. You know what happens in His presence, right? We change and things change! You may even want to write down his responses to you so that you can go back to them in the future and remind yourself of promises, instructions and words of truth and love He gave you.
I’ll leave you with this one today:
Philippians 4:6 (Amp) “ Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition ([a]definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.”
