Singleness according to the UK National Census in 2001 states that 30% of the total population (52 million), which equates to a staggering 1.5 million people, were classified as single. You see you are not alone!!!

Here are some questions we as believers can ask ourselves:

Is it acceptable for some catholic priests i.e. the pope downwards, selected denominations & monks choosing a vow of chastity?

The bible says in Genesis “It is not good for man to be alone”. Therefore if denominations such as the Catholic Church & monasteries state a person must not engage in sexual activities or be single then this is their rules and culture and one must obey that when they go in and if they wish to have a relationship then choose another denomination.

Are some people destined to be single then & is it socially acceptable to be single now?

Yes some people choose to be single however it seems to be more and more people these days are single through the circumstances of life and being single at 30 or 40 is much more acceptable. Some people think that if you’re a man and don’t want to be in a relationship, regardless of whether you find someone or not you are gay or there is something wrong with you. Not true surely.

Should people put career ahead of relationships?

The bible teaches us that there is a time and a place for things to happen so it is right to have a good career to pay the bills and to provide for oneself however as long as that does not dominate our lives and there is time or to find relationships keeping things in perspective is the main thing here.

One person says “It’s good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it’s good too to check up once in a while and make sure that you haven’t lost the things that money cannot buy!” Money cannot buy love although many singles pay for sex as a temporary way to find satisfaction.

Are people emotionally ready to enter into relationships and should we wait until we are?

Txtmania says “Never rush in love for it never runs out. Let love be the one to knock at your door, so by the time you start to fall, you know that your feeling is for sure”. For some lets face it are not ready, sometimes people have to deal with emotional baggage first before entering into relationships and then it takes lots of time and effort to develop a relationship and things are never smooth.

How do I know I am making the right choice and I wont be in another stat where people are divorced, separated etc?

“Love is not about finding the right person, but creating the right relationship. It’s not about how much love you have in the beginning but how much love you build till the end, coz love is all there is”.

Are you jealous of being left behind if your friends fall in love and they don’t have time for you?

“Being single is cool. No worrying about anyone, no obligations and best of all, no heartaches. But you know what? If you will never get your heart broken, you will never learn to love”. In other words the grass is not always greener on the other side. There are advantages but whether we love being single or not we are with ourselves 24 hours a day and have to accept it despite how hard at times it maybe.

Finding the right person has made me depressed at times wondering at 28 whether I will find someone, to date I have not, everyone I ask is dating, I am not working so I cannot afford to take her out and the timings just do not seem right however “Love can never be taught for it is to be learned; love can never be bought for it is to be given; love can never be kept for it is to be free; love can never be old for it lives to last a lifetime”.

If you are meant to fall in love and find someone it will be if not then try and be happy in all God has for you, keep doing HIS plans and living in HIS will and things will work out just fine.

Lord Jesus, I pray for all single people out there, that there will be opportunities for new relationships, they will be intimate, fresh & real and in times of frustration and loneliness you will be there for us. In Jesus Name. Amen.
