Have you ever been so habituated to doing a certain thing that you know is wrong. You find yourself consciously aware of the fact that you are doing wrong, but seemingly riding on cruise control as your body takes your soul places that it does not want to go.
It is literally like you’re sitting and thinking “OK, I’m not going to (insert favorite sin) no more.”
Then your homeboy calls and says ‘Hey man we bout to do exactly what it is you up there saying you ain’t going do no more right now, come on!’
“Aight mayne i’m coming” and you’re out the door without thinking.
It is essentially something so simple in essence that has your true spiritual nature on lock down like the black and latino filled penitentiaries. It also seems inconceivable that you could not conquer the hindrance being one who possesses a 100 proof bottle of cognitive faculties, so you’re not slow. I mean shit you are in college that has got to count for something doesn’t it? That’s what everyone tells you to do isn’t it?
So why can’t you win?
Why can’t you defeat that which you know is wrong?
It’s because you like what you are doing. Your carnal body craves doing the things that the world has got it loving the lies, the weed, the greed, the sex as my man Common said, but your soul, your soul bestowed unto you by the Lord God steadily pulls towards the things that will help you see God. Your flesh will always walk you away from the commonwealth that the Lord has prepared for you, unless of course you kill the desires of the flesh and just completely stop the behavior.
Now you’re saying “well hell, if it were that easy we’d all be doing right. That was the problem in the first place”
Yeah that was the problem in the first place.
The whole point I tried to make is that I don’t have any of the answers because I stumble just as much as anyone else. If there are people out there that feel like they are a slave to their sin just like me, then try Jesus, I am finding that he is sufficient.
