The angel appeared to both Joseph & Mary to tell about a baby who was going to born to them. In Matthew 1:21 they were ordered to give the baby a name, that was Jesus. As we all know that the name of Jesus is all powerful and wonderful. But let’s find out what this name Jesus can do according to the scriptures.

1. It brings God down among the believers: “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20

2. It gives power to the believers: “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” Mark 16:17-18

3. In Jesus’ name the demons submit to the believers: “The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” Luke 10:17

4. Prayers will be heard: And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. John 14:13

5. It heals the sick: Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. Acts 3: 6-8

6. It gives Salvation & Remission of sins:
then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. He is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by whom we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 (also read, John 3:16-18, Acts 2;21, Acts 10:43, Acts 2:38, Romans 10:13)

I thank to such a God who has a all powerful name which can do wonders. I have experienced the power of this name so many times in my life. Have you ever really experienced the same?

Yes, he comes whenever I call. When I called his name within my heart, my life was spared, from what might have been a serious car accident.

Nice write-up, In his name means by his authority. Just calling his name (like saying ‘Jesus Christ’ when you stump your toe) is not what he’s getting at in these scriptures, I don’t think.

Pulling someone’s ‘name’ through the mud, is driving their character – all that they are – down. It’s reviling their person and the essence of who people think they are.

In Jesus’ name, is through his person, and his power – the authority that he has.
