I've always loved the KJ version for its beautiful language, but for theological study my favorite has been the New Oxford Annotated Holy Bible for some time now. The Standard Revised version(s) from the early 20th century aren't too bad, either.

You certainly did your research on this one and it shows. I would note that most scholars today believe the Revised American Standard Version is the best translation we have today. But the NIV is good as well. Very good article!

You have done your research. I have found that most people who argue which version is the best, don't read the version they have to begin with. I personally read from several versions but that is just what i do. Before i preach, i always like to prepare, and there is always one person who says, "that's not what my Bible says." I have learned to memorise verses multiple translations for the benefit of who ever I am addressing.

Very powerful argument, the bible I feel is written by man and inspired by God, but ultimately if you live by the 10 commandments your living your life according to God wish, and thus we wait til judgement day. The bible is great for inspiring and looking for comfort, but the commandments are the rules to live by.

Thanks for your comments. Inna - I don't know if you were following the debate with REPuckett, but in my part 5 answers to his 50 questions I explained the "canopy theory". The waters above the sky formed a canopy of water vapour, and according to the Creation Science Foundation, this canopy would have provided a barrier of protection from the sun's harmful rays, which could account for the long lifespans of the people who lived before the flood. It would also explain how forty days of rain could flood the entire world.

Karen--

It is entirely possible that the Bible was divinely inspired but the people who wrote it still had their take on the world. They had a preconceived idea of what the world--and the cosmos--looked like. Have you ever tried drawing out the creation of the world? I have.

What was in the beginning? "the deep". In other words--water, ocean. So to create the world and the air we breathe "And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters." In other words, the earth and the sun and all of it are in a kind of bubble and we are surrounded by water that has been divided from water..

If you take the Bible (any bible--because they all agree on this point) literally this is what you get.

Regards,

I got a kick out of one thing you said..
"Once the English church leaders finally stopped burning the translators,..."
it totally made me laugh..
"Thou shalt not kill".. and all that jazz.
