Our alphabet was one of the things that we learn when we were kids. But as we get older, sometimes those letters become different. They differ when they stand for something else than just what we were taught. We used to associate “A” in apple, “B” in bicycle, “C” in cone, “D” in dog, and so on and so forth. Do you miss your alphabet soup? What I would like to share is my newfound meaning of the letters B, C, and D, a meaning that I know is one worth sharing to each and everyone. But you may ask where is the “A”. Honestly, I have only thought of the three letters next to A, but for the love of alphabet, let us “A” stand for Almighty God. I think that would be fair enough. Besides, everything started in on Him. Now for the “B”, I say it stands for Birth. Yes, it is true that our life is of God. It’s originally his, for it came from him. But when He when He breathed life unto us, we came into life. We came into this world when our biological mothers gave birth. So an equal truth could be that our life here in the world started from our birth.
Let’s skip a letter and reserve that for later. Let’s talk about the “D”. “D” could mean Death. If there’s a beginning, there should also be an end. We stop living when we die. In the bible, there are two kinds of death, the physical and spiritual. Physical death refers to the death of our physical, mortal bodies. I think it’s the kind of death that a verse talks about when it was said that men are destined to die only once, after it, the judgment. The latter, which is spiritual, is a kind of death that occurs even before we were born. Pretty confusing? Men were condemned the moment Adam and Eve sinned, the so called “Fall of Man”. Since then, their would-be offsprings including all the generations that will follow were considered spiritually dead. They died in God because they chose to allow evil to prevail over them. Was God unfair? It was Adam and Eve who made mistakes. Why should we share with their punishment? I don’t have the answers. All I know is that God was not unfair, and never will be. For even the people in the Old Testament have not heard of Jesus Christ yet, (though His birth was already prophesied in their time) they were justified by their faith. One more thing I’m sure of is that God would never be happy carrying out punishments. But He is just. He just couldn’t let our sins pass especially if we don’t repent. Imagine if there’s no law in the country, would there be an order? Can we just let murderers to keep on doing what they do? Absolutely not. But certainly, God won’t just leave things that way. From the beginning of time, He knew that man would sin, and beforehand, He have already made a solution out of his great and unconditional love for us even to the point of taking His own Son’s life.
Now, what about the “C”? “C” means Choice. In our everyday lives, we make choices–what to have for dinner, what to wear for today, what bag to use, what color of make up to put on. Eversince we were kids, we have been allowed to make choices. Have you remembered which toys you chose to pick in a shelf in the mall? God too, has been asking us to make a choice. God has already offered a solution. It was all Him who did it. We don’t have to do anything else anymore to be saved. It’s free and the decision is ours to be made. As a song I know puts it, “It’s been an open invitation for every man or woman from every nation”. God is pleading with us to make the right choice. He longs to be reunited with us. Otherwise, He would cease from knocking at our hearts’ door. We were made for Him, and only in Him we would find our meaning and purpose we know we have been looking for all of our lives. Don’t tarry. Don’t waste time taking two steps forward and a step backward. You might lose precious minutes you could have spent with Him.
Obviously, we can only make choices while we are living. After death, it would be impossibe. It was said that not choosing, is indeed a choice itself. Are you gonna wait until it’s too late? Now is the time to make the right choice.
