The Gift of Porn

The gift that never leaves the mind.

Many good parents have given the gift of pornography to their children and they have in turn passed it down to their children. This gift is one that many will keep most if not all their life. It is not easily discarded, matter a fact, in the attempt of discarding it, it can and most often find its way back. All it takes is a simple image to trigger the urge.

The viewing of pornography may be considered by the popular vote a private matter. Many may even state that no one gets hurt by their private viewing. This assumption is by far a blind statement meaning that those viewing porn are blind to the damage they are doing to themselves and their family.

The gift is given when a young boy or girl finds their father’s or mother’s porn stash or they discover the websites they have visited. Once the child explores the taboo and their eyes are filled with images, the child’s soul then has been infected with this disease. If allowed to continue the infection then becomes an addiction.

Like any addiction overcoming it is an up hill battle. Just praying and asking God to take it away can seem to be fruitless prayers. In praying to overcome our sins there is one avenue that some overlook, and that is to listen to His voice found within His word.

God has given us a powerful answer in His word that helps us begin the trek to recovery from sin.

Gen. 4:7

If you are doing what is good, shouldn’t you hold your head high? And if you don’t do what is good, sin is crouching at the door – it wants you, but you can rule over it.”

The Hebrew word that is translated as “rule” in the English is “masal”; it means to rule, reign, to have dominion. It also connotes the act of taking authority as in leadership.

Pornography is one temptation that leads to sin; it crouches at many doors of our lives. God tells us that we can rule over it. If you have been infected, you can begin to take control by making simple steps like averting the eyes.

Many Christians poke fun at and demean the Orthodox Jew for walking down the street looking at the sidewalk. This is how they have taken control of and rule over the “lust of the eye” to avoid impure thoughts.

To begin to overcome this sin one must recognize that they have the addiction then take necessary steps to taking ruler ship over it. You must become the master not the slave. God has given you the power to take authority over this sin. He has commanded us to choose life. By choosing life we will take authority over the sins we have and bring them into subjection to God’s law which leads to life.

Deut. 30:19

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,

The addiction to porn has claws that reach deeper into a person than any other addictions. How can this be? Porn enters through the eye.

Luke 11:34

The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness.

Once the eye has been infected with this addiction it can not get enough, it continually craves more and more.

Ecc. 1:8

All things are full of weariness beyond uttering. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

God knew that the eye of man would cause him grief. This is one of the reasons that He gave the children of Israel the commandment of the tassel.

Num 15:37-40

The LORD also spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, and tell them that they shall make for themselves tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they shall put on the tassel of each corner a cord of blue. “It shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the LORD, so as to do them and not follow after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you played the harlot, so that you may remember to do all My commandments and be holy to your God.

Below are some stats on pornography. They are given to make you aware of the immensity of the attack from the evil one in the attack against our soul from the gate of the eye.

  • 89% of all porn is made in the USA
  • 12% of all websites are pornographic
  • 25% of all search requests are for porn
  • 35% of all downloads are porn
  • 72% of porn is viewed by men
  • 28% of porn is viewed by women
  • 70% of all porn is viewed between 9-5 weekdays.
  • 260 porn sites added daily
  • There are estimated 372 million porn sites
  • 28,258 internet viewers are viewing porn every second
  • Every second, $89.00 is being spent on internet porn

These states were compiled from Techcrunch.

Pornography is the temptation from the evil one that causes us to stray from God by subjecting our eyes to darkness. Parents freely give this gift from the evil one when we bring it into our homes. Do not be fooled that no one will know or that you can keep it hidden. The evil one knows how to lead your children and anyone else to it so that they too may become slaves to their sin.

Very powerful article, especially with the Bible verses and statistics! It breaks my heart to see how many people are being lured in by the false promises of porn.

One problem. God doesn’t exist, and thus your entire article is BS.

Dave B., If you don’t believe in God, that’s your own business, and it’s not a reason to call this article “BS.” Looking for an EXCUSE to make the viewing of pornography okay does not make the viewing of pornography okay.
