We all know of the Holy Trinity – the father (God), the son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. We all also know that man (we) were made in God’s image. Doesn’t it stand to reason then that we are also made up of a trinity, just as God is? That’s what I think, and I’ll explain what I mean in the rest of this article. Please read it and let me know what you think!
Just as there are three separate but intertwined components that make up the single Christian God (the Holy Trinity), I believe there are also three separate but intertwined components of human beings that make up each single person as well. I call these three components:
- The Mind
- The Body
- and The Soul
These are the three components of each human being that make up what I call the Human Trinity. Just as each of the three components of the Holy Trinity are equally important, the three components of the Human Trinity are also equally important. You cannot be a human being unless you have a mind, a body, and a soul.
The first component of the Human Trinity is the mind. The mind is what controls your body (for the most part). All of your thoughts from what time you should get up tomorrow morning, to what you want to eat for dinner, to what the answer is to the problem (2+2=?), all take place in your mind. When you want to walk from one place to another, your mind is what tells your legs to move. Almost everything that happens in your brain, is controlled by your mind.

The second component of the Human Trinity is the body. Your body is just that, your head, torso, arms, legs, heart, lungs, etc. This is pretty self explanatory, but is obviously an integral part a human being. You can’t be a human without a body. There would be nothing to hold your mind or link your soul to. Your body is where the other two parts of the Human Trinity are contained.
The final component of the Human Trinity is the soul. This is the eternal portion of who you are. Your soul is the only part of you that can’t (as of yet) be seen or measured. It’s the spiritual part of you that provides a link between your mind and the heavens. This is the part of you that the Holy Spirit speaks to and you interpret as your conscience. This is the part that controls your feelings (for the most part).
That’s the gist of what I think of as the Human Trinity. The reason I said “for the most part” concerning the mind and the soul having to do with thoughts and feelings is because I don’t think it’s a clear cut division between what produces what in terms of your thoughts and feelings. But that discussion is for another article…or book.
So what do you think? Does this make sense to you? Do you agree or disagree,….and why?

Hey, Vance this is Scott Bailey.
I agree in the idea of what you are saying, but I have a little different take on it based off of what the Bible teaches.
The body is like you said the body, we use it to move and interact and get things done physically.
The mind is also our soul. We process emotions, thoughts feelings, ect. IE: the bible says not to trust your heart because \”the heart is desperately wicked, who can know it.\” This doesn\’t mean a physical heart but our emotions. The soul is the part of us that will live forever, either in heaven or hell. It contains our memories ect. Too much to write here now just enough to hopefully convey what I mean.
The Spirit is the part of us that died in the fall. Genesis 2:17 God said Adam would die the day he ate of it. Well he did and he physically didn\’t die but the part of him that communed with God did; His Spirit. Which is why Jesus said in the Gospel of John you must be born again to nicodemus and the bible talks about us being born of the spirit and walking in the spirit. Once we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior we are Born again and our spirit becomes energized and we can begin to hear from The Lord and walk with the Lord and as Galations 5:16 says \”But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.\”
So basically I agree with you thats just what I have learned from my study of the scriptures. So there you have it a Youth Pastors take on the \”human trinity,\” if you would. Good post though I enjoyed it. Sorry if I was a jerk at all to you in high school as well. LOL.
