First of all, there is one thing you should all know. God loves you. He loves you and you and all those sitting in the front row. He loves all those on the left side of the room as well as the right. He loves all those in the back, middle and front of the room. He loves all people of the world and what is most incredible to me is that God even finds time to love me.
Now God loves us so much that He gave us His only son. Now that’s a pretty incredible act since God had only had one son to give. Now I could tell you that I love you and I do. I love you with a healthy, Christian love that comes from a respect and admiration for who you are. But, my love is limited and it has boundaries. For instance, I could not, would not, will not give you my son.
Did God really have to give us His son to show us He loves us? I mean, hadn’t He done enough already? After all, we were born into this world and even though it has its ups and downs it is a pretty cool place, isn’t it. We have our parents and siblings. We’ve got friends and our homes, our jobs, schools and neighborhoods. We’ve been given music and the other arts. The birds, the trees, food, entertainment. Look at all God has given us and yet, He has more.
God has this gift of eternal life He wants to share with us. Instead of calling down to Moses or Abraham or one of the prophets with His message, He came to earth in the form of God the Son to tell us. While Jesus was here on earth as man, He looked like us. He walked like us and worked amongst us. He sounded like us and sweat as He worked and grew tired like us. He was tempted and grew weary as we all experience. He was like is in all ways, except for sin.
This becoming one of us, this becoming carnal and living amongst us to give us God’s message is what is called the Incarnation of Our Lord. It is one of the most significant signs that God loves us as He literally met us halfway in His relationship with us.
