How do you keep your personalities, like ships, positive and watertight, so that the negative waters of life do not enter and swamp us from within? The answer lies in learning to control what we feed our minds and where we focus our attention.
The apostle Paul did more than maintain a positive attitude in the midst of trials and tribulations; he learned not to let his circumstances affect the joy he found in the presence of God. Here’s how he put it:
“I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:11-13.
Earlier in this chapter of Philippians the apostle Paul tells how he is able to maintain this attitude of contentment. He says he learned to control his mind. He determined what he was going to think about and what he was going to refuse to dwell on. That’s a decision anyone can make and put into practice.
”Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.” — Philippians 4:8, 9.
The secret to true contentment is not learning to control circumstances but learning to control the way you think and focusing on something more positive. My best alternative is focusing on Almighty God, who is always more positive and more powerful than the circumstances. When I do that, I always have a bright side to look on.

An uplifting read. I have always been a positive and reasonably contented person. It takes so much of the stress out of life.

Very promising article, a good reminder to be positive in life. We all need “a pat in the back” from time to time.
Nice article. To be content all the time would be hard… but this guide will help I think.
Well written article, not the kind of thing I usually read, but I certainly see your point here.

I enjoyed reading this… I am not sure of who/what I believe in but I do know there is something bigger.. Great article
it makes life so much easy and more pleasent to look on the bright side. The trick is to do it.
I like the verse you use to sum up your approach.
You have pinpointed the secret to happiness–our perspective. Often we have no control over our circumstances, but we do have control over our thoughts. There’s a brilliant book written by Holocaust survivor and psychiatrist Viktor Frankl called Man’s Search for Meaning that presents this same perspective.
biblical..=) boost your spiritual awareness..=)
