The Polish Shrine of Our Lady of Chezavockia in Doylestown, Pennsylvania is a symbol not only of the desire for Peace of a somewhat new group of American citizens and their enthusiastic neighbors, but a symbol of international peace, understanding and unity. The doors to the Shrine are red marble, like the Kremlin of Russia but engraved with the names of Polish verterans of World War II. the entrance to the shrine is blessed by a statute to Our Lady of Lourdes while in the back of the shrine there is a beautiful statute of Our Lady of Fatima. Spain and France are remembered with devotion to the Mother of God, whose Son promised that our of our hearts would come streams of life giving water while we cannot forget the dancing sun of Fatima.
The Shrine is to the Black Madonna painted by Saint Luke. This painting is similar to the four Madonnas Saint luke painted with the star of Israel on the shoulder of the mantle of the Madonna. I call these the magi countries. This painting was burnt and marred by the enemy in World War II and represents the country that everyone trusted with their money and which we should still lookk to to lead us out or the trenches out onto the high ground of the greatest peace Christendom has had.
People come from all over to visit the shrine dedicated to a Christain World Peace. The Shrine steeple rises high and pierces the clouds with a rod that pretends to strike lightening, (as Benjimen Franklin did), or merely, (like the Eiffel Tower) is a part of reception for many souls as if they were planes, ships, or rockets.
The priests at the Shrine remind one of Polish Solidarity which with the Shrine to make that clear, is a challenge to all of us to live with the spirit as saints and heroes do. the fathers publish the saints lives and sell some very important books at the Shrine. Fancois Mitterand, Premiere of France wrote the Wheat and the Chaff which father sold at the Shrine. The Treaty of Versailles was another book the fathers sold. The Shrine best rerpresents a favorite poem of mine:
Fine Wheat
Pressed Down
Shaken Together
Running Over
We need a new treaty now and Joe DeGual who is one of its chief architects is the nephew of the Polish visionary and statesman, Sakarov.
In closing I want to focus on the great organ in the choir loft of the Shrine. Dan Rather, who was responsible in part for the other great organ of my experience-in Wanamakers in Philadelphia especially important at Christmas-contributed significantly to placing this beautiful and priceless organ at the Shrine.
The Shrine composes for the peace of each individual as a key to the peace of the country and the world.
